You can only abandon it but a member of the staff can delete it. We generally prefer not to delete profiles/accounts because while it doesn't delete your posts it does change the look of the threads and makes a bit of a mess of things.

What you ought to do is send a PM to either me, Maryjane or barts with both what you'd like to do and the reason for it. We like to know the reason in case there's a larger issue involved we need to be aware of and so we know what options we can suggest.
