    Deletion of Threads

I was just wondering if the Admins/Mods had ever considered deletion if a thread become old and inactive. Also, if they have considered deleting accounts due to inactivity after year periods and given multiple warnings via contact emails. Although I know nothing easier about web site management and issues like bandwidth, it just seems to me that that would cut down bandwidth. Real simple terms would be helpful for me. I could probably understand quantum mechanics or Greek easier than computer stuff. Would deleting the stuff help at all? Or would it simply just delete stuff and have no affect other than the deletion of data? (I really don't do in-depth with computers well.)

This topic has come up before among the mod team.

We don't delete old threads since they are all crawled by net spiders and we don't know which topic may encourage someone to join up so they can debate it. New members (and a few old ones as well) frequently resurrect old threads and rekindle their debates.

Deleting inactive accounts is something that the owner doesn't feel is necessary.

Storage is mercifully cheap. $60 buys you a portable terabyte drive, although I'd be afraid that filling such a device with nothing but creationism and Ron Paul threads would reach the critical mass of evil and do something awful to the local space-time continuum.

The more you complain, the less I care about your problems.

That was funny! Thumbs up Thanatos.

But rather cheap like you say and Jack saying:

makes sense, BUT…What about deleting fresh threads that you ban the members right off after posting?

Threads started by a member who is afterwards banned (usually for spamming the forum) can be deleted or left intact. If the thread has attracted the interest of the members and it's taken off as a debate then we generally choose to leave it open. If no one has contributed to it or its sole purpose was to host spam then we delete it.

We don't usually delete posts made by members later banned unless those posts contain spam.
