    please plain

I copied this from the top of the opening page "Have your say about our new rules." Why are people still given an invitation to participate in a thread that has been closed. Who ever invited anyone to have a say about the rules, when this is not allowed?

I speak controversy so we have something to talk about. Don't take me too seriously.

The actual title of the thread was "Your Input on New Rules". It was started in June and only closed in October when people began to ignore Jason's request that members only post once with their opinion. Members may still voice their opinion by PM or email to Jason or any of the mods. In the 5 months between June and October only two people added their comments. Either interest was waining or everyone who wished to have a say had done so.

We closed the thread because we are now operating under the revised rules. The old rules remain visible until Jason has a chance to replace them, but we are essentially following only the new rules. Nothing in the old rules is contradicted by the revised version, so if a new member only follows the old rules they'll be in compliance with the new rules.

In case anyone is wondering, here again are the revised site rules:
    Overview

At Volconvo we value intelligent debate on important topics while upholding a friendly and respectful environment. These values are indispensable to a well-functioning discussion forum and are the essential standards for our staff and members.

    Healthy debate

Members come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and will undoubtedly encounter a similarly wide scope of opinions at Volconvo. Topic starters must present viable subjects for discussion with the expectation that respondents may disagree with their views. Members are encouraged to freely express their positions regarding the topics at hand but are not permitted to insult site members publicly or privately. Our staff will help protect the personal integrity of all registered users.

Please remember that miscommunications can often occur in online settings. Assess your and others' postings accordingly.

    Site disruptions

Attempts to disrupt the normal activities of our forums are not permitted. These include, but are not limited to, pushing threads severely off topic, disregarding site staff, registering multiple usernames and advertising. Users may not harass other members or staff.

    Moderator rights

The moderating team is selected at the discretion of the owner of Volconvo. Although their main roles are to foster discussion and keep topics on track, moderators also handle disputes and enforce the site rules. Moderators may modify or delete content in violation of these rules as well as issue infraction points to registered users. Accumulation of enough infraction points may result in a member's automatic ban.

    Dispute procedures

Members may report material which they believe violates our rules by clicking the report button beside the offending content. Members may also challenge the actions of moderators using the report feature or—in extreme cases—contacting the owner of Volconvo. Members may not, however, discuss management or moderation issues in the public forums. Please keep in mind that exaggerated reports will diminish the staff's ability to respond appropriately to real problems, and excessive reporting may be deemed a disruption.

    Owner rights

The owner of this website serves as an administrator and the final decision-maker on all matters. His authority is not constrained by these rules, although his primary concern is the overall interest of this website and its members.

    Jurisdiction and amendment

These rules can and will be implemented site-wide throughout our forums, blogs and messaging systems. These rules are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the site owner, although members will be notified of any modifications.
Now, because both sets of rules request that questions regarding site operations and moderation be conducted through private message or email and not broached in the open forums, this thread will also be closed. Any further questions should be directed to a mod or Jason by the means provided for that.

    The Forum Rules

Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.
    [John F. Kennedy]
The principal value of debate lies in the development of logical thought processes, and the ability to articulate your positions publicly.
    [Senator Dick Clark of Iowa]
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.
    [Terry Pratchett]
