Dear Owner and Administrators,
I discovered Debate Forums when I broke my back 3 years ago. In my morphine haze, I very much grew to enjoy the experience. To listen to minds think and share that thinking... allowing understanding to grow... slotted right in with my, life long, addiction to learning which I indulge, often.
I had always assumed that I would return to my old life and simply fade away from debating as the 'novelty' wore off. That hasn't happened however. The injury was too severe, and debating such interesting minds, too engaging and well suited to my new, more sedentary, lifestyle. Such is life; you wins some... you loose some.
You can tell by my registration date that Volconvo, without even realising, was along for the ride in my debating sojourn. I have read volumes here and learnt much and contributed here and there. It's been good... very good... and I thank you for that.
However now, nearly three years on... it's time to part ways. I find myself not so impressed with Volconvo as I have been. There is a certain 'superiority' complex permiating the debates which I find very unsettling. Clearly, I am going to nominate Anonymous as exhibit A... but in his defense... he is not the only one, and quite possibly is being influenced by the others of this allegedly 'superior' debating class.
I don't know why this occurs, just that it does. Maybe they caught sight of their IQ... from a distance... and assumed that number to mean more than it does. Who knows! Shame they are not so wise as to understand the duties entailed to being intelligent with their greater than normal ability to express understanding and therefore share that understanding... respectfully, as though speaking with a fellow human on the journey of life and learning.
There is more of course, and it is the more that has brought this on. You see... Anonymous has taken this nasty vitriol of his to a whole new level, invading my Private Messages with same. Harrassment no less. I've never been harrassed on a Forum by a debater and having read articles and testimonials on such things, I'm not about to indulge the experience beyond outing the man-child before removing myself from Volconvo.
Between the 16/12/08 and 19/12/2008, I have received 5 PMs from either Anonymous or Anonymous1.02. I responded to the first making it perfectly clear that I did not like him or his style. Possibly, this encouraged him. I have not responded to any other PM. Possibly, because of my lack of response, each subsequent email became more nasty, with the final two from Anonymous1.02 being the deciders on my leaving for their over the top nastiness.
You are, of course, perfectly welcome to access my account and explore these abusive emails. If you require my password, you have my email address and on your request I will send the password to you. Once you have finished, you can then close my account, please.
I should point out to the audience that Anonymous, although nasty and abusive, was not threatening. It did not get that far. Indeed, it may not have got that far. I don't know and I never will.
As a woman, I do not assume the best when being abused via multiple private messages. As a woman, it would be stupid to assume the best when it's bloody obvious that the person is not behaving within the normal range of expected behaviours.
So there you have it... Sappho's first experience with an internet stalker.
Kind Regards and thank you all for providing me with some very interesting reading. I leave having enjoyed the experience greatly.
Sappho.
