    Obscene Language

I was under the impression that "Obscene language" applied only to unnecessary usages of "bad words."

A weeklong suspension has convinced me otherwise. Is it OK or not to use swear words when they're pertinent to the discussion?

I've been led to believe that it is OK. (See http://www.volconvo.com/forums/socie...offensive.html)

Ok? Crossing the line? Do we have to wait for a moderator to click his heels before we can proceed unmolested? I'd appreciate a clarification of the policy.

Potentially offensive language is permissible if it is relevant and necessary for debate. I think we've been pretty clear about this. If you have a question about a specific instance, please contact us via PM or report the post.

But I know that more than one mod is responsible for enforcing the rules - and I also know that it is possible for moderators to treat situations differently.

I'm not debating my ban or any specific incident - I fully acknowledge that I was in violation of the rules.

What confuses me is that what could be in violation of the rules in one thread wouldn't be in another. If we take the example that garnered that infraction point - I was discussing with another member the implications of a certain curse word in the context of an arrest.

The reason I brought this to the open forum is because it could be very helpful information to more than myself. Both threads with seemingly contradictory moderation policies are also in the open forum - I didn't see an issue in pointing them out.

    Transparency's a good thing, right?

Again, Kame. I told you our position on the issue and if you have a specific issue to address, you know the way.
