Sometimes there are members who regularly receive infraction points, but at a rate too slow to allow points to aggregate and result in a suspension. For this reason, any members who receive 10 infractions (not points) will also be suspended for 1 week.

10 infractions... over time? Because if the points hadn't expired, they'd be banned, right? Just trying to clarify, not "complaining".

Yes. Is someone racked up 7 points in one month, they would be suspended for one week. If, however, they racked up 30 points in 6 months, nothing would happen to them. So, with this change receiving 10 infractions after any period results in a suspension.

I was wondering about that recently...

Someone stated that they had, over time, received many infractions and just waited for the points to expire.

Then they just let 'er rip again.

I think this is a very fair way to curb people trying to skirt the system.

    Pfft!

It wasn't me that said that, but if you have any passion at all you will get a few infractions. Members who stick around for a few years will inevitably get whacked on the peepee for a week.

If Jason doesn't want my input for a week why should I snivel?

I put it that way to someone recently... I said I get infractions because I'm passionate... they told me it's because I get frustrated when someone is being a brick wall.

When someone refuses to listen to your argument, despite all your attempts to impress them with logic and facts, it can be frustrating. When they begin to TAUNT you, that becomes even more frustrating--even frustrating enough to start with the personal attacks and other inappropriate language.

However, in those situations I just let the argument lay, and stop debating the guy. You'll see lots of experienced posters who don't get infractions do that--explain that they've already presented an airtight argument, that they've tried to reason with the other side, but that the other side clearly refuses to accept the argument and it's therefore a lost cause to continue.

Brick walls won't fall--or get any smarter--no matter how much you curse them. Better to let it go and spend your time more constructively.

I guess that's the trick, then.

If someone starts in with being belligerent and they keep repeating the same thing instead of responding to what I'm saying, then I should let them go.

What I wonder, though, is how other people here perceive it.

I know. It is hard to let go. And no one likes to let a topic go dead when that may be an issue the poster is passionate about. I usually don`t let go, but I finally noticed that after I stopped responding to Kubedawg`s constant bleating that plants can feel pain and it is cruel to eat them, he posted less and less on it. Some may have perceived that I gave in to that argument, but I am guessing that most saw it as an absurd counter argument not worth giving much more thought to it than I already generously had.

It's almost like you want to post something like:

"I'm not conceding. I'm just leaving."

If you feel someone has given up & is deliberately baiting, report, don't respond.

I don't see a problem with saying just that.
Something like, "Since it's obvious we will never agree (find common ground, see each other's POV, etc.), there's no point is wasting each other's time continuing this."

I use variations of that all the time. It's nothing CLOSE to a "concession" but it ends the argument between you and someone else fast.
Of course, you DO sometimes have those "last worders" who like to get in one last post and say "I won", but they are just tools and easy to ignore.
