At what point is it the fault of the video game maker if something bad were to happen to someone, regardless of their age, while they were playing the maker's video game? It's the parents who are responsible for their children's lives, until the children grow up. If a child purchases an M rated video game from a retail store who is 13 years old, then gets killed due to the game, who is at fault? Where were the parents when this incident happened? And why did the retail store sell a game rated Mature to a 13year olf kid? There are rating systems for a reason, and just because something says rated a certain way, doesn't mean the parent's shouldn't look into the game more thoughroly before purchasing the game for their kid. It's just like taking any risk. A child that doesn't fully understand the difference between right/wrong or the difference between a toy/gun should not be sold a game which can potentially harm them in real life. But at what point is the child old enough to view/play these types of games? Well then, back to the parents. It's up to the parents to raise their children to learn right from wrong, real from pretend, and that can take time. But the age in which this will occur is different for every single child on this planet. Yes the rating systems are flawed because John Doe's son over here who is 12 could fully understand the difference between right/wrong real/pretend and the consequences of their actions as opposed to people I know personally who are my age(20-25) who know nothing of consequences, or right or wrong. But, the show must go on and their must be a medium and that is the ESRB rating system. So, as long as they are still around(which will hopefully be for a long time) then I guess we'll just have to rely on the decisions and responsibilities of the parents to determine if a game rated Mature is right for their child. |

| Magma Posts: 1,035 | oh and regarding blood pressure and other health related issues, it's called dopamine, check it out on wikipedia as you can see that anything naturally fun such as eating food, having sex, among other great things, causes your dopamine levels to rise, which increases your blood pressure and may or may not have malicious effects on your body(drugs for instance). So, in regards to this post, I further disagree with your main statement that video games are bad for you. |
