Well, if you're going to let homosexuals share sleeping and showering facilities with the sex to which they're attracted, you have to let heterosexuals do likewise. Otherwise, you're showing favoritism to one group over another.
Perhaps. But there are other risks to consider. For example, two folks of the same sex aren't going to make babies if sex occurs.

The potential for pregnancy is irrelevant.

Tell that to the folks that administer and enforce the separation rule.

I think the honorable thing to do would be to let her finish her 20 years then retire with an Honorable discharge.

For this to surface now after 19 years seems as if one side or the other is making a statement. I'll watch as the story unfolds to see just what the details are.
Wait, you should let someone continue to get away with an ongoing felony for another year and then reward them for it, just because they got away with it for 19 years?

Im not saying I think the law is right or wrong. Im just saying she knew it was a felony. You arent allowed to be openly homo. you also arent allowed to use marijuanna.

Its not about pregnancy. Its about order and discipline. You cant get anything done if you are surrounded by things you want to stick your dick in (I should know, Im in college, and I cant get SHIT done)

Except in REAL, non-slacker life, people DO get shit done.

I spent 5 years in the Air Force. Worked, ate, showered and slept next to men I found attractive (I'm a gay man). Yet, I still got my job done without making unwelcomed advances. After helping my squadron win the highest technical evaluation ratings in the entire AF, I was invited to re-enlist (which I turned down).

What was that about order and discipline again? LOLOL :)

It is exactly that sorta mindset that helped me decide neither the air force or my country was worthy of the level of expertise and exceptional skill they claimed I displayed.

Maintaining rules that drive top notch performers out of the military is a waste of efficiency which translates into wasted taxes. Citizen patriots should be fucking OUTRAGED that this form of waste is allowed to continue.

Your claim about the aforementioned officer committing a felony would be laughable if it wasn't so disgusting.

All Im saying is, she knew the risks, right or wrong, she knew it was a risk. She took a risk that she knew about ahead of time. Dont take risks if you arent willing to accept the consequences of your luck running out. Maybe she wasnt discreet enough. Maybe she pissed off the wrong people.

The point is, you guys are feeling sorry for this woman and crying outrage that she is getting the shaft. She played with fire. She got burned. Thats tough shit. If I play with fire, and get burned, Im not going to wine, Im going to accept that my luck ran out and move on.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Heard it all before, pal. Doesn't mean I agree with it.

I've watched the military make ALL KINDS of exceptions, favoring people who didn't deserve favorable treatment. This is one case where they had the option to do the right and honorable thing, but perfomed disgracefully instead.

I hope she wins her lawsuit including reinstatement of all benefits. While I doubt punitive damages are an option, I'd take the DoD to the cleaners if they were.

I am very disappointed hearing this from you, Bugs.

She is a soldier and she voluntarily put on the uniform of her country just like you. By the very nature of her job she is potentially putting her life on the line and serving her country.

I would think you would be the LAST one to say "tough shit" regarding what the military is doing to her just because of this. The military is screwing this woman over and you're on THEIR side? She's a lesbian. To THAT I don't say "tough shit", I say SO WHAT? She's a soldier too, or doesn't that mean all that much?
It's true, if YOU play with fire and get burned that's tough, but I would expect fellow soldiers (who didn't even KNOW you) might actually want to back YOU up regardless.

Can I assume you just didn't think this one through?

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

Yes, but you had the spectre of having to keep your homosexuality hidden. That serves as a good motivator for deflecting the attention away from your sexuality.

Has everyone here forgotten that the only reason the military found out was because of some anonymous tip? Part of the present policy is that the military is not supposed to pursue homosexuals. In other words, an anonymous tip is not a sufficient basis for the military to act on this.

I think it's penis envy on the part of straight service men, gays statisticly are BETTER HUNG!
That would make showering with the bigger boyz awfully embarressing.

btw. As it turns out...........size does matter! http://www.thevarsity.ca/media/stora....thevarsity.ca
"With new techniques in hand, scientists have carried out an abundance of rigorous, serious studies on the nuances of the penis. Research has found, for example, that shoe length has nothing to do with penis size. Gay men will no doubt be pleased to hear that they have larger penises on average, according to some research. "
the size of a servicemans penis has nothing to do with his ability to KILL and thats there job

I was an officer in the local gay and lesbian non-profit orgnization for over 3 years prior to my departure from the military. My name appeared on the articles of incorporation, readily available to the public. I spoke at a dozen public appearances during that time.

I was in my first longterm gay relationship almost 2 years before my departure from the military. I brought my partner to several functions. While we didn't swap spit or grope each other, a person would have to be blind not to notice the affection we displayed toward each other.

There were a few folks that didn't like me that might have turned me in as a suspected homo. This was before DADT, so witchhunts were still very popular then. Plenty of opportunity and tons of evidence. Nothing.

At my security outprocessing briefing, my commander hinted that many folks thought I was gay. I told him they were correct. He sat back in his chair, laughed, called me a brazen sonofabitch, and took me to dinner in honor of my contributions to his squadron and the USAF.

Hidden? LOLOLOL!!!! :)

You should have been discharged and tkaen the punishment that went with it. Why? Becuase you broke the rules. Who are YOU to say what and how things work?

I know people that did thier 2 year stint, smoking dope every chance they got, never got caught, they make the SAME arguements you do... that doesn't make them right. (just equating two acts that people seem to think are BS to be banned, not the acts themselves people.)

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

They do, Chancellor, every chance they get. It may not be officially sanctioned, but it happens every day. Maybe not the barracks showers, but the beds get shared.

Exactly. Rules are rules. want the rules changed? go through the appropriate channels. if you break the rules be prepared for the consequences, and dont be a whiner. Its that simple.

There is a gay guy that keeps showing up at the rec center in the locker room and keeps looking at me with the expression I would have if I were a pimple faced 13 year old boy in the girls locker room jacking myself off in front of horrified sorority girls. the most recent occurance of this gave me my best explanation of why I dont want gays in my Army:

I want to shower, dress and sleep around men Im not attracted to who want to fuck me in the ass about as much as a woman would want to shower, dress and sleep around men she isnt attracted to who want to fuck her in the ass.

That'd be a great argument if you were comparing similar issues. A person's sexual orientation doesn't put lives in danger where readiness and the ability to serve is concerned. I was respected for helping the team achieve their mission while exceeding expectations. The fact that I also happened to be gay did not go unnoticed in the hearts and minds of my contemporaries,

Instead of whining over a non-issue, you should be grateful you got the biggest bang for your tax buck for 5 years.
