Those are two different articles both talking about the same things, and in case you are under time constraints, i'll sum 'em up. Microsoft is deciding to end offering chat rooms to MSN messager users in Europe and many other countries. They will continue to move to allow only paying subscribers to the currently free service to chat. This move is to attempt to decrease pedophiles and smam0rz and all that shiat none of us like when we are trying to hit on the sexy bots. ;) ;)

but seriously...

if you read the second article, you'll see that there is a large group of people in the UK harping about violation of free speech. so i guess i was just fishing for ideas, opinions.

my opinion:

are they fucking kidding me? at the point where microsoft is a private corporation this debate is pretty much over. they dont HAVE to let us verbally molest children via their servers. they dont HAVE to let us set up wide-scale anarchist moviements via their servers. there is no right being violated here. it is a completely unbiased removal of nonpaying members. the justification for allowing only paying members? so their records are on file in case suspicious activity needs to be investigated. it seems like a good idea to me, pedophiles may be driven off due to desire to keep their billing info private, and spam-mail companies who send in hundreds of bots into numerous different chat rooms will not be as inclined to subscribe for every one of those bots.

hit me baby one more time. ;)

I agree that its microsofts service and they can close it if they wish, there is no argument against that. But as for dealing with pedo's, wouldn't it be better to keep it up and running, but have some watchdogs keeping an eye on them. Microsoft is a big company, and kids will go to it before many others because they know it. Without it there, the users will scatter into multiple different chat rooms, making it much harder for any policing to be done.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Silly double-talk, seems to me that they simply decided that they could have a higher profit margin w/o the free customers. Too bad society punishes corps for being honest so they have taken dishonesty as a way of life...

Not much wrong with Microssoft closing THEIR chat rooms down - but not much wrong with users in the UK complaining to them. No offense to whoever who started this one, but really it is a ridiculous non-issue.

If I own or rent the room, I can decide who speaks in it -- that is not a violation of free speech. But if I'm the government and I ensure that no room is available for certain speech to occur in -- that IS a violation of free speech (go see the movie Z). Whatever the venue, sexual predation on minors is not protected speech.

Er....go to another chat room?

For stupid idiots: If one company closes down their service, there will be approximately 100-10000000 other companies offering a similiar service. Yahoo still offers chat rooms, and as for the others, type in "chat room" (or "hot little boys chat roomss") in google.

Ideological loyalty is the act of giving your soul to a vague concept, to be manipulated by people smarter than you.
