| Paladin Location: Narnia Posts: 4,277 | That's your biggest? I can think of several. One of the things that I like most about my college is that we have a policy against sports scholarships. And we don't have a football team. :) Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. | BANNED Posts: 5,021 | It's called competition. It's the best thing that humans have going. It's the only incentive we have to do anything well. Sure, we can motivate ourselves to do things voluntarily if it's for a good cause...for a while. Last edited by tman_ndsu08; Apr 5, 2006 at 01:51 pm. |

It's kinda like moms who want their daughters to be head cheerleader and the most popular girl in school so that they can live vicariously through them. With some supporters still utilising it as a platform for mindless violence and racial bigotary. Still the World Cup kicks off soon and we'll keep you posted ![]() Last edited by Arawn-ap-Hywel; Apr 5, 2006 at 04:55 pm. | |

They tried to make sports the opium of the people, but all they got was another class of addicts. ![]() Petition of Redress of Grievances: http://www.givemeliberty.org/default.htm Canadian Lawsuit Against Their National Banks: http://www.freewebs.com/classaction/ Osborn F. ![]() Marksman Location: "A place that cannot be found except by those who already know where it is." Posts: 199 | Considering the billions of dollars people are spending on sports, it's at least as proftitable as the drug industry. And considering the additional billions of dollars that change hands because of betting (which is addictive) the resemblance is striking. However, although the typical athelete makes more than the president, the sports industry hasn't (to the best of my knowlege) directly harmed people and why would they? Capitalist society doesn't harm its own customers (except the tabacco industry). "Rage, rage against the dying of the light." -Dylan Thomas Last edited by weasel; Apr 6, 2006 at 05:23 pm. |

| Molten Ash Posts: 80 | Actually, entertainment is viewed as an escape from life for a brief period. One in which all else falls by the wayside, and we are transported somewhere else, where our bills, and responsibilities can not follow. Escapism, yes, becoming more necessary for the multitude every year. |
