I'm playing with you, kid. It's plain fun talking on message boards, at a very elemental level.

I stated that the differences are overstated and overrated.

I will stand next to you and salute to the proposition that differences exist.

I prefer two sexes, and I am generally in favor of exploring the possibilities, within reason, for the liberated (masculine) yet feminine female and the liberated (feminine) yet masculine male, both in touch with their yin or their yang, depending on the context.

I have enjoyed posting in this forum, which does seem to be chock full of some not-so-liberated men. lol.

I disagree. The differences are very large and very important. And for women to dismiss this is to ignore very important information in their battle for equal status in society.

Also Volconvo is only a medium and can be as serious or flip as the participants allow.

exactly what proposition do you disagree with? I'd prefer a quote from my words followed by your interpretation of what those words mean, just so we can be clear about what it is we are disagreeing about.

Then, go for it, use the medium, to illuminate, educate, and bring on the future.

Sorry about that. My last post was in response to this statement of yours:

Quote:

I would say the opposite, that the differences are understated and underrated.

And therein lays the reason for the unequal status of women in society.

Starboy

There is plenty of chest thumping by the boys allowed for by society but not nearly enough of the same allowed for the girls.

Well done.

So, that brings us back to square one.

What are the differences? How are they understated and underrated ... and how does the act of understating and underating the differences lead to unequal status of women in society?

And, btw, what does "unequal" mean?

Well you know me. I am a scientist. If we think there are differences then the only honest thing to do is systematically go look for them. And we are in luck, because for the last thirty or forty years there has been all sorts of research that has found just that. Significant differences between the boys and the girls in language, empathy, development, endurance, pain threshold, sexual behavior, brain structure and operation, concepts of fairness and on and on and on. It's in the scientific literature. All you have to do is go get an education.

I would equate unequal with unfair or unrecognized or unappreciated or uncompensated and a lot more uns.

whoa. That kinda reminds me of Ford Motor Company, when it was dealing with all the blowing up engines in those Pintos ... giving the injured people's lawyers access to the whole storage shed of files, ... maybe the smoking gun was in there somewhere, but Ford wasn't going to bring it out, polish it off and hand it to anyone.

So, I sit at your feet, scientist guy. Bring on one of your articles, and let's talk some turkey. If you want to change the world, you need bring the obscure yet explainable insights to the common woMan. lol

Hey, a lot of this research was conducted by women scientists. But *yikes*, I have been reading the literature from various sources for over thirty five years and have not exactly been keeping a file for the defence of women. But I will start one and hope to have it available for the next woman with a chip on her shoulder that doesn't exactly know why. In any case I will give you the advice that I give my daughters. We are all responsible for our own educations, so hop to it.

I'm guessing one among this group of highly intelligent folk will have *something* to offer, and it might even be in this thread, which has some considerable weight to it.

Perhaps even you, when you are feeling strong, will be able to rise to the challenge. :)

So, which football game are you watching? We're watching Iowa vs. LSU ... I've got my money on LSU.

I will tell you what I will do. As I come across such research I will post it to a new thread on Volconvo. I'll call it "The Dance of the Sexes". You are more than welcome to post the first entry. After all, why should you believe me or anyone else for that matter? Go see for yourself.

Is there a football game? People still watch that?

yup, and LSU just made an extraordinary touchdown, ... followed by another Iowa extraordinary touchdown.

No calling that game. There's a winner, but what a game! Iowa pulled it out, with 15 seconds to go. BTW, women are reporting from the sidelines but they haven't made it to the box yet ... is that because of the biological differences between men and women or because of societal expectations about who can talk smarter and faster? lol

Girls have always been higher achievers, primarily because they do mature more quickly than boys physically. Also, it must be said that girls (women) engage in process-oriented thinking, while boys (men) engage in goal-oriented thinking. Both thought processes complement each other. Perhaps most telling, however, is how the genders are raised during childhood. Males are raised to be independent thinkers, while females are raised to be thinkers capable of arriving at a decision that's good for a group, rather than an individual. And, whether anyone likes it or not, the following adage is true: Educate a man, and you educate an individual. Educate a woman, and you educate a nation. And in this day and age, the women are refusing to play dumb anymore for the sake of the male ego. Deal with it.

just for fun, and just because I like to file things. (I think I have a preference for filing things because of my "clerical gene" ... which is kinda "pink" lol )

Here is an interesting article on a recent study. The responses and reasoning by some of the males are funny.

I personally feel that it indicates an approach to equality of the sexes. A point made was that men are doing well in roles normally seen as female.

What do you think?
Men have penises, Women have vaginas.

You can't change that.

I really don't understand the huge push for ultra equality. I do understand paying a man and woman an equal amount of money for doing the same job *if* they can do an equally good job. That just seems like common sense.

But there are simply some things that men are better at and some that women are better out. Title IX is a perfect example of the feminist agende gone too far.

You might have a penis, but I'm having trouble connecting with you as person, tman.

You got a heart?

An interesting thing i came across once said that quite clearly a man's brain is larger than that of a woman. But it went on to say that there is a certain chemical in a woman's brain that makes there's work a lot more efficiently. Interesting i thought but does not answer this arguement.

I'll enjoy watching it progess

hi, bloodeagle.

The size of brain, reminds me of other size comparisons I heard about, reading up on Title IX, locker rooms, and all that.

Did you see Jerry McGuire? I loved the scene where there's this women sportscaster reporting live from the men's locker room, after the Big game. LOL.

me thinks that this debate is unresolvable and although lots of fun to watch is somewhat irrelevant. My own feeling make me think that without each other we could not survive and could not have becomes what we have become. Both sexes have ruled the other in a sense. Men more recently seemed to be the big boss whereas many generations ago the woman was always the revered figure. Together we make human kind. powerful, intelligent and with a lot of untapped potential if only we as a race could grow up. Divided by sex, race, age or any other petty arguement makes us weaker and stops us reaching our true potential.... and who knows.. maybe one day we will acheive it.. i for one plan to stick around to find out haha
