UK Scientists to Create Embryo From Two Women

UK scientists have won permission to create a human embryo that will have genetic material from two mothers. BBC News explains how and why. Why are the UK researchers doing it? The groundbreaking work aims to prevent mothers from passing certain genetic diseases on to their unborn babies. The researchers are focusing on a group of conditions called mitochondrial myopathy, which include types of muscular dystrophy. These cause muscle weakness and wasting, making it difficult to move normally - some may need to use a wheelchair. At present no treatment for these exists, although things can be done to help with the symptoms.

This is freaking awesome. Every year we gain more power over our bodies. This is amazing. The more we learn how to manipulate our bodies, the more ability we have to heal.

So what of lesbos use it to have babies? Why do you care? It's none of anyones buisiness. I hate the idea of depriving any people a baby who want to raise and love it. That's more then many hetero births get. If someone is willing to go to those lengths to create a baby with thier partner, then you have more of an assurance that it will be cared and loved then with most hetero birthed babies.

Kudos to the scientists. I only hope my scientific career will be as fruitfull.
