![]() Volcanic Erupter Location: Oregon Posts: 5,174 | We can The following comes from pbs.org Wide Angle, the story about fishing. The program last night, announced this link to inform us of the endangered fish supply. We seriously need to stop eating the some the fish, so they can multiple before becoming extinct, and instead we should eat some of the other recommended fish for awhile as these are still in plentiful supply. If we all cooperate with this and inform others, then we can keep our sea food supply in healthy balance. You might ask the restaurants and stores near you to cooperate with this effort to protect our sea food supply. "Seafood is often recommended as a healthy source of low-fat protein and, increasingly, it is an important part of conscientious American diets. Yet the methods used to harvest our oceans aren't always as ecologically sound as we might like to think. As stocks of our favorite fish plummet or become tainted by environmental contaminants, we are forced to acknowledge that the sea is a limited resource that must be managed wisely if future generations are to enjoy its fruits. Among over-fished species scientists recommended we avoid at the dinner table are: Chilean seabass, Atlantic cod, King crab, Monkfish, red snapper, imported swordfish, and bluefin tuna. Good alternatives include: black seabass, bluefish, clams, halibut, hering, lobster, mahi mahi, oysters, squid, domestic swordfish, striped bass, tilapia, and yellowfin tuna. Select one of the fish below to learn more about the issues related to its harvesting and how you as a consumer can make an intelligent mealtime decision". |

Hell, we humans have driven so many other species to extinction, it'll be a shame one day to have all that salt water out there with nothing in it. If you want the country to go to hell in a handbasket, then vote for the one who can drive you there blindfolded. |

I tend to hate bugs in general, so I would be more inclined to get out the Raid (I wouldn't), than prepare a feast of anything with an exoskeleton. I think the ocean is the dominant weather factor on Earth, and we need to attempt to learn more about it before we alter it beyond recognition. Like the atmosphere, its compostition is affected nearly uniformly be pollutants, and temperature change. It is a potentially scary scenario that is developing right before our eyes. |

Think you're helping to preserve them by caring for them in your aqaurium? Watch any documentary on how they're captured and transported and you may put away your tank for good. On the other hand, I would be concerned if people like me were wiping out seaweed in the name of veggie california rolls. I don't see a solution to resource depletion and habitat destruction as long as populations keep growing. I feel like all we can do is spread the word for people to do their best to delay the inevitable. |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 632 | Can't we just create a worldwide government instead? I think it would be better for us to issue ration cards for tuna. The prices will no doubt go up, but that is what we want, right? But if the prices go up, the "street-entrepreneurs" will see it as an opportunity to earn some major cash and large black markets will develop. Then there will be an "End the War on Irresponsible Fisheries" campaign and it will win and then we will be right back where we started and all the fish will die or mutate so lets just skip the whole thing. You know, maybe it really just comes back once again to the difference between the liberal mindset and the conservative mindset. Sure the average person is mostly good, but he is also self-interested. This wouldn't be such a problem if the average person didn't place more emphasis on the short term than the future. What may be good for one person today or the next few days may bring about a disaster that harms us all in the future. My suggestion? Vote in good Conservative governments. The first step towards solving all of the really major problems that exist today. |

A fish tank plant has been engineered to grown easily, and when released in sewers connecting with oceans it is growing out of control and pushes away the natural plants that fish need for life. The human engineering makes this plant grow so well, it is growing in cold and warm waters, and it grows very, very fast. It is growing where it has no natural enemies and creating dead zones where fish can not live. We must depose of this fish tank plant very carefully. Burning it would be best, because any piece of it will begin a new plant. I think it should be law that no one sell the plant and the engineers who created this mightmare should have to pay for damages, just like oil tankers have to pay for the damage they cause. ALSO, I hope everyone knows, there is so much mercury in tuna fish that pregnant women should not eat tuna. There is enough mercury in the tuna fish to cause the unborn child brain damage. | Hot Lava Posts: 1,227 | Also be very careful where you fish. Trust me. There is a river near where I live. There are creeks which goes into this river. Up the river are evil corporations that dump horrible shit in the river. Without even thinking I caught a fish, cooked it throughly and ate it. The doctors told me they discovered there are evil corporations that dump horrible shit up the river. Be careful where you catch a fish. And just to think it is the peoples river. Just to think bozos think there are no enviornmental problems. I will invite anyone who believes there are no enviornmental problems to a fish fry but you will have to sign a paper relieving me of any responsibility of what happens to you when you eat the fish. |

We can not depend on government to cure all our ills, but we must relearn the meaning of democracy and rebuild all our relationships. When the owners of the cooperation feel socially obligated to attend the fish fry with their families, the effect will be much stronger than man made laws. We have forgotten democracy is very much about understanding universal laws. Our man made laws, are suppose to be based on our understanding of universal law. We have a government where laws can be changed as our understanding of universal laws (science) changes. However, I am afraid Christianity without education for democracy is destroying our democracy because people understand religion but not democracy. We need to unite with the whole world and keep in mind, democracy is about universal law. That is God's laws only this is a God of reason, not the God of Abraham. | |
