because the if the government didn't encourage lawfulness, there would be none... if there was nothing to stop anyone from stealing all your stuff and murdering you'd have nothing and be dead... that is the only "legitimate" purpose of government...

OK - why does the government need to involve itself in these matters?

why? ok, it doesn't... you have nothing and you are dead...

society no longer exists... everyone steals and kills as they like...

but people can't let that happen, they band together for protection and form governments... it happens all the time at the most basic levels...

But that's not what we're talking about in here. Lawfulness and all of that is being disscussed elsewhere. This is about whether it's any of the government's business who you sleep with and if you want to make a marriage contract with them.

How do we have nothing and die if we don't amend the constitution to protect us from gay marriage? (lol...)

Tusaki,

You seem like you are still alive. Have the married gays in your country not come to kill you yet? Have they not demolished the economy, eroded family values, and isn't the institution of marriage for everyone else disintegrating right before your eyes?

Seriously....was there anything different in "society" after these rights were granted?

Thanks.

I thought basically societies ruled by Tyranny or Feudalism.

War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is strength
Harness the power of Ingsoc, then you can capture someone killed the year before

I couldn't really tell the difference (nothing to see here folks, move along now), but I have no doubt I can find someone within a 2 km radius who claims the things you have stated :) but then again, that same person would have probably claimed those things before the same-sex marriage was allowed as well.

Specter to Feingold: 'I don't need to be lectured by you'...

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/....ap/index.html

Quote:
Quote by: CNN article
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Senate committee approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage Thursday, after a shouting match that ended when one Democrat strode out and the Republican chairman bid him "good riddance."

"I don't need to be lectured by you. You are no more a protector of the Constitution than am I," Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania, shouted after Sen. Russ Feingold declared his opposition to the amendment, his affinity for the Constitution and his intention to leave the meeting.

"If you want to leave, good riddance," Specter finished.

"I've enjoyed your lecture, too, Mr. Chairman," replied Feingold, D-Wisconsin, who is considering a run for president in 2008. "See ya."

...

"Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman," reads the measure, which would require approval by two-thirds of Congress and three-fourths of the states.

"Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman," it says.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised that these morons have completely abondoned the concept of States rights, and hope to dictate terms to everybody from Washington.

Typical of people who can't win the argument on facts, they'll just legislate their reality onto everybody.

To think Specter calls himself a civil libertarian. What a liar.
