The storys been told a million times,
but it's different when it's your life

If I was going to rape someone in a country where guns were freely available I'd definitely bring one. In a country where they weren't...probably not. I'm thinking the scenario you got worked out in your head probably isn't that accurate.
You can talk about rights all you want, but until you draw up some hard data that proves that being able to buy guns actually lowers the prevalence of violence it don't matter. Of course being able to buy guns is not the only thing that influences violent crime, but if you believe that it actually makes people safer you'd best bring the stats.

I can't. None exists. Indeed, evidence exists contrary to that. You can talk about rights all you want, but until you draw up some hard data that proves that being able to buy guns actually lowers the prevalence of violence it don't matter.

Well....It sounds as if you are going to rape someone... you're going to do it either way. Maybe you will bring a rock. I'm thinking you would bring a rock.
But all that shit just means is "man with rock tried to rape me, and I shot a quarter size hole in his head...."I'm thinking that scenario works out for any jury in this land".
I was wondering when this thread would turn to guns....didn't take long.

Do you have an argument against it, or mere incredulity?

An argument against what? You presented no argument.
A simple argument against what you just said is that if you are willing to let everyone die just to have that right would seem an extreme and counter productive right. I mean the woman you are wanted to give the right to self defense would also die.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd - Voltaire

Well, that's the point, innit. And with every man, woman, and child dead who is going to rape or attack the last woman?

A sense of obligation."

If the "right" of one woman lead to an incredulous slough of men, women, and children dying, I would seriously reconsider affording it to that woman.
