I am strongly opposed to parents dragging their kids to beauty pagents, or any kind of performing related competition. I’m of the opinion that when you have kids you should give them as little organized activity as possible and just give them the means to have fun and explore their world. Parents are spending too much time living vicariously through their children and trying to put tons of meaningless structure in their lives. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, militarism and economic exploitation are incapable of being conquered Martin Luther King Jr. |

It should never happen -- not only in sick, twisted "pageants" -- but in any other situation. I think this shows that we live in a time where not only children are being raised by corrupting television (+ every other opinion/value-shaping media), but that we have parents raised by that same (...if escalating in moral corruption) crap with its' upside-down moral values and artificial role models. Kids (again, especially girls) are forced to mature earlier on in life, ever more increasingly, with their role models being nothing but talentless whores. My 11 year old niece wears panties with slogans like "sweet stuff," and her mother (that'd be my sister) doesn't like it, but is afraid of being labeled "old fashioned" or "a nazi parent" if she speaks out, or god forbid, tells her daughter not to do something that every other kid is doing. We should let our daughters be kids while they ARE kids, instead of approving of prostitutes like Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears to be their role models at the age of 8!
