Military Has Discharged 26 Gay Linguists

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...tary_linguists

My favorite part:
Quote:
The group contends the records show that the military — at a time when it and U.S. intelligence agencies don't have enough Arabic speakers — is putting its anti-gay stance ahead of national security.
So this brings up the issue of how the military should deal with the ever-emerging gay rights issue. How should the military respond to homosexual soldiers if at all?

I think it really should not matter. We are all Americans. If gay people wish to die for their country then we should certainly let them. Hell, you would think anti-gay rights people would favor anything that would put them in harms way (IM KIDDING).

Were they cunning linguists?

Evidently not: in a volunteer army you don't wanna get kicked out.

that's ridiculous.. especially at a time where they need every soldier they can get. of course, when you're a military bureaucrat, you aren't in any danger of getting killed so it's not your problem to worry about.

i wonder if the gay soldiers purposely tried to get themselves kicked out. sure beats slicing your achilles.

According the the story, these guys "came out" to their superiors. They basically didn't give a shit about it.

Gays in the military is a tricky issue. Men and women are billeted seperately in the barracks. Where do you put a gay guy? With other men? In a room by himself? It seems like special treatment.

When I was in the service, I had friends who were gay. I couldn't care less. Some of them were actually pretty forward -- this one sailor asked me if he could suck my dick.

Coming out to superiors can be seen as defying their authority. I'm appalled that these linguists were discharged, but at the same time, I have to wonder what the circumstances entailed for them to approach their superior officers regarding their sexual orientation in the first place.

Even now there's still a bit of social stigma attached to being gay. Let's not pretend there's none. I think the Prime Minster of Romania is a bit over the top though:

PM Offers To Sleep With Journalists' Wives

The Romanian Prime Minister is offering to sleep with the wives and girlfriends of journalists on a Romanian newspaper to stop them claiming he is gay.

Adrian Nastase, who is also a candidate in this weekend's presidential run off elections, made the offer after being asked by reporters about rumours a local newspaper was to out him as gay.

Nastase said: "I am not afraid of the threat of any sexual scandal created by a certain newspaper that criticises me every day anyway.

"If people from Evenimentul Zilei newspaper want me to prove to them that I have no homosexual inclinations, I will test all their wives and girlfriends to show them where my preferences really are."

Evenimentul Zilei responded by writing: "We are very worried about the health of Nastase, who appears to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown in the light of his recent tasteless statements."

Considering that Jihadists hate gay people with a burning passion (After all, look at what was said about Pim Fortuyn in the mosques of the Netherlands) a gay linguist would have a vested interest in winning the war on terror decively.

Considering that some of their replacements have been of...dubious quality (lets just say they're apparently playing the other side of the fence, and I don't mean butthole spelunking) this really was a stupid move.

I'll have all the gays in San Francisco over just one of these death cultist freaks, thanks very much.
(I don't have to worry anyway as I never show up on gaydar)

Not too clever, huh, Starboy? But I thought it fitted in somehow...One of those snappy one-liners.

Thank you Patrick, you saved me from having to drag out that good/bad pun myself.

As for the subject at hand, stupidity continues to triumph.
