| Molten Ash Posts: 103 | Battered Husbands I watched a news article tonight with interest. It was regarding the topic of battered husbands. It seems 1 in 6 men is battered by his wife. That's a suprisingly high percentage and yet the government refuse to recognise it. They refuse to offer any kind of support for these men and yet for womens groups they plough in the money for grants etc. Several groups have tried to set up safe houses and support groups for these men but the councils and police and government refuse to offer any help or acknowledgement. I think its gonna be time for a men liberation group soon haha what are peoples thoughts on this lack of support? |

I think nobody takes them too seriously because the man is assumed to always be able to beat the crap out of his wife. In my experience that isn't always so, though. I know at least two couples where I wouldn't put any money on the man in a fair fight. |

| Go the Crusaders Posts: 671 | I used to have a bad tempered lady that was pretty handy with a skillet as well as with her toungue, not to mention the purse strings. I was bought up to respect woman and never, ever, raise a hand to them. Took me many years to escape this specimen and even now she comes a calling when somethings pissed her off. Gonna have to get my wife to beat her up one of these days. That will sort her out. Damn crazy wench! You have two choices in life: You can stay single and be miserable, Or get married and wish you were dead. |

You probably grew up in a similar environment as mine. The female was almost always the delicate flower. The "worst" she would ever get is to start playing baseball and be called a "tomboy", but not a husband/boyfriend abuser. Changing times, I guess. | |

So when the tables are turned....there's a touch of black humor there. Say, I wonder if Ann Coulter's married and, if so, who's the courageous guy who married her? |

| Molten Ash Posts: 103 | i would hardly think that 1 in 6 men getting battered makes it a rare thing. That seems pretty common to me. But indeed the atitudes toward this shown by many is exactly the attitude shown by the governments etc. They also think it is rediculous. How many men do you think actually would report it? Not many i can bet... I know if i was battered by a woman i would feel pretty silly going to the police to complain, or even telling my friends. It is exactly this attitude that needs to change. This is not something that has just started. When the lady that opened the first women's refuge in the UK started out, she also tried to opens a mens refuge as well but it was scoffed at. Therefore there is no humour that tables have turned.. they haven't. Women perhaps just make more fuss about it when it happens to them (not that i blame them). |
