thats the stupid thing isnt it.
that still in todays society when alot of people arent religious that
you still need religous cerimoney to get some legal rights.
but thats the way it is and most likely will stay for a long time to come.

That's not quite accurate. All states offer a non-religious, civil alternative to religious marriage. You get some medical tests, sign some papers, plunk down your $50, and you're married with all the same rights and responsibilities as a religious marriage.

The only difference is that same-sex couples can't avail themselves of that alternative in most states, and in no case will such a marriage be recognized by the federal government.

At age 53, I may not see the change occur completely in my lifetime, but the change is coming.

Although I am tolerant of gays, I believe that for them to marry each other takes one of the important features of a traditional marriage away, that is, the combining of yin and yang, male and female.

It disturbs me, but for some reason I can't find a decent argument against it. Maybe this kind of change is progressive, but its quite a big one.

what religion are you talking about here?
i though the fundemental thing about marriage was joining two people together (who love eachother) in the eyes of 'god'

I will probably get married the Christian way, that doesnt make me a Christian
or theist. It's just traditional in Western/secular society, right?

Im not talking about any religion. I'm talking about the core point of a marriage (traditionally accepted anyway), the celebration of the union of a man and woman for life. How that union is more special than a man to man union (bad thoughts go away..), I can't say.

if your not a christian and feel you have the right to get married in a christian
way, why do you feel that two men or two women dont?
i dont see why anyone would want to get married unless they are religous...

Did I ever say that I felt that gay couples didn't have a right to marry? Where did I say that??

Besides, that right to get married in whatever way you choose, let alone, a Christian way is granted by law.

Again, the laws are different in the US. There are non-religious people who can and do get married in various governmental offices every day.

Moreover, married folk in the US are privy to certain benefits that non-marrieds are not. In my own example, My same sex household will be paying over $14,000 more in insurance premiums and taxes compared to an identical opposite sex married household under the same conditions.

i am against it, but not to the degree that id say that it isnt thier right. i just dont feel comfortable with it. ive repeated that there really isnt a convincing argument i can bring up about it. i guess its just an part of me not liking that change.

im just woundering if you should open the door and take a step out of the closet?

alot of the time people who feel 'uncomfortable' about homosexuality are trying to opress feelings which they are afraid of....

Ummm... no.

I'm uncomfortable with homosexuality and I know why, and it's not because I have latent homosexual feelings.

Not every homophobe is homosexual.

And maybe... just maybe... some are just truly opposed to the idea of a same sex couple engaging in any romantic social or physical activity.

That's rather disrespectful.

As a polite suggestion, you might consider that if you want to make your point clear, use capital letters, proper grammar, and appropriate punctuation.

ignorant
I'm curious...

Someone has a preference against something, they dislike it, and you call them ignorant?

You're going to insult someone because they just don't like something?

I don't like mushrooms. Does that make me ignorant?

Some people don't like scary movies. Does that make them ignorant?

And some people don't like blacks, or gays, or jews, or men, or the French. Does that make them ignorant?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

So I'd have to wonder, who's more ignorant: the person with the dislike or the person who dislikes the former on the basis of that dislike?
