| Igneous Magma Posts: 313 | Yesterday, Ontario's Attorney General Michael Bryant said that within a month he will introduce legislation to ban Pit Bulls in Ontario. Those who already own the dog can keep it but must muzzle it when in public. Once legislation is passed you will not be able to breed, re-house or import Pit Bulls into Ontario. Now, personally I'd rather see that Pit Bull owners have to get a special licens to own the dog, and that dog must pass obedience training. The owner must also go to a course to insure that he can car for the pet properly. I think a total ban on the dog is a little excesive, but I suppose better then nothing. |

Of course, this undeniable fact is cold comfort to the lady in question. "I wish I was as cocksure of anything as Tom Macaulay is of everything." -- Viscount Melbourne

I was once attacked by a rottweiler, a young one but almost full grown, and when it leapt at me I punched it in the face really hard. It stopped. Problem solved. And I was a young kid at the time! |

It must have been a very yound dog, or didn't really want to attack you. I've seen dogs in fights get hit with 2x4's and pay no attention. I highly doubt a punch to the face of a Pit Bull that wants to attack is gonna stop it. After all, that is what it was bread(sp) for. I agree, this is not cause for a ban, but rather for muzzles

I sincerely doubt that there has been a large upsurge in the attacks by pit bulls... it seems more like the media is now hunting for stories where someone was attacked by a dog that could be described as a pit bull. I did find it quite humourous that City TV cornered Michael Bryant last week and asked him to identify which dog was the pit bull out of 16 photos. He got it wrong the reporter commented that she had moved the photos around after she suspected that his staff had let him know where the correct photo was. After all of his speaches saying "you know if you bought a pit bull" he couldn't even identify one. I live in an area with one of the largest dog parks and a high number of pti bulls. Personally I've never had a problem, seen a problem or heard of a problem with them in this area. It's really too bad that they are so quick to act in such a knee jerk reaction. Fierce dogs are the responsibility of owners, who should be intensely prosecuted for unwarranted attacks. If I own an attack/guard dog, I must be willing to restrain him when in public. On my own property, properly fenced, intruders should be wary of my dog's feeding habits...Heh.
