However, yes...it could be put to more productive use that wouldn't involve leaving someone out in the cold.
Not "leaving our fellow man out in the cold" does not require a societal acceptance an inherently unjust fiat global economic system.

Are you unaware that George Dubya Bush drove the economy off a cliff during his administration? Recovering form that fiasco will take time. In the meantime the Republicans just want more of the same.
Anyone who watched Comedy Central last night knows that! Jon Stewart must've said exactly that at least 100 times, peppered thoughout his news anchor routine.

Um, anyone with a "Conunction Junction" degree of understanding of the US legislative process knows that its entirely irrelevant "what the republicans want", at least with the current make-up of both the house and senate.
Most Comedy Central viewers probably wouldn't.

Yes, because the constant threats of filibuster and the ever-present fact that you'd need to get the entire Democratic Senate to agree on an issue doesn't factor into the political spectrum. Seems you only have a Conjunction Junction degree of understanding of the US legislative process.

    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

Your point? Do you deny that the Great Recession began under Bush's watch?

Some mostly blame Muslims and 9/11 for the economy, so who knows what one is bound to believe.

    HA!!!

Well, it was muslims bombing the houses, yes, but "muslims" (as a whole) aren't responsible for it, but rather one specific terror organization, that group that decided to do it.

Our economy has been going down since the second world war, to blame others for our lack of positive intuitive, that is just silly.

The credit bubble collapsed, triggering the current recession, specifically because of the expansion of the credit markets and deregulation and lax oversight of new market instruments, especially but not limited to the Bush administration.

Of course, the conservatives say it is all Obama's fault.

    you mean 'obstructionist' democrats?

Do you deny that the Great Recession began under Bush's watch?
President Obama has framed his budget as a break from the "failed policies" of the Bush Administration. Actually, his budget doubles down on President George W. Bush's borrow, spend, and bailout policies.

President Bush expanded the federal budget by a historic $700 billion through 2008. President Obama would add another $1 trillion.

President Bush ran budget deficits averaging $300 billion annually. After harshly criticizing Bush's budget deficits, President Obama proposed a budget that would run deficits averaging $600 billion even after the economy recovers and the troops return home from Iraq given his escalation of military spending and other policies concentrating any real long-term economic recovery to only the global monopolists...making this 'projection' (including misleading CBO reports) pure fantasy if not lying propaganda.

Half of all workers in America today are women. Should they be allowed to work and pay taxes and yet not be allowed to vote?

What does the "prescient brilliance and innate logic and morality" of the founders have to say about this?
THEY SAID THAT TAXING PERSONAL INCOME IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

"the unsustainability of social engineering" (some vast conspiracy, no doubt)
No, its simple math, as is being demonstrated throughout the western world's monetary defaults and the world's governments' deficit budgets----you know, like the U.S.'s which Obama has expanded exponentially in 18 months. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE IN MAGNITUDE between billions and TRILLIONS ?

"social spending" by govt is the worst return on cost imagineable, not to mention the deeply negative attendant cultural and moral terpitude they foster.

talk about a policy "not trickling down" !

...and you want to tax people more ?

What nonsensical blather armx. I see you still did not answer the question. Do you deny that the Great Recession began under Bush's watch?

Do you think that just maybe the Bush administration driving the economy over the cliff, resulting in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression might have had some impact on the deficits during the Obama administration?

You are willing to blame Obama for each and every problem facing the nation while giving a pass to the likes of Bush and BP. Why is that?

A female state senator from Kansas says if women's suffrage were being voted on today she would not support it, because the 19th Amendment was the start of a decades-long erosion of family values.
    Senator: Women should not vote

They're such emotionally driven creatures that most of them don't have a logical bone in their body.
Confessions of a Homeschool Dad · Why Women Shouldn't Vote

"If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president." Ann Coulter

"The problem is that politicians tend to be alpha males and women's minds are frquently clouded by irrelevant emotions. I don't want crucial political decisions being made on the basis of silly females fantasizing over the wrong "stimulus package." Judith Warner
    Why Women Shouldn’t Vote

Our founding fathers did a remarkable job of securing our independence from the Brits and devised a Constitution that has become the standard-bearer for the world's most successful nation, all without the interference and destructive vote and participation from women.

I'm not that much of a partisan chauvinist that I wouldn't consider allowing Republican/Conservative women to vote, since we all know they wouldn't vote for all these debt-ridden social programs that their female liberal counterparts have voted for since 1920--that dreadful year of the enactment of Women's Suffrage.
This is right in my back yard and Kay O'Connor is one of the features in Thomas Franks' "What's the matter with Kansas ?"

Needless to say this got a great deal of press.

i blame the self-serving lie of leftist ideology and war machine employed by the ruling elite to concentrate their global monopolies through their political puppets---like reagan/bush/clinton/bush began with the banking, credit, mortgage and derivatives scandals, bush's big pharma medicare scandal, his two obscene 'wars' in the middle east, all of which are now being exponentially expanded by obama, contrary to his 'change' rhetoric.

try informing yourself on the progression of these govt economic manipulations. they have a genie in a bottle that prints money. all of politics is just the ruling elite's efforts at obscuring how it it being secured by smokescreen policies fooling many into thinking its 'progressive' policy for anyone but themselves or 'necessary' for 'security'.

so, you're a bit late to the party of blaming bush for 'the great recession' and in deep denial about seeing current trends as anything but those that seek to cement an eternal serfdom
