I am not a Christian either but I prefer the Chinese proverb

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life." -Chinese Proverb"

Give him money or the means by which to make money?...i'd much rather see a man stand up on his own two feet then at my knee begging.
Chinese Proverb? I think Jesus said that.[/b][/quote]

Suburbanite Jesus said something similar..but the Chinese proverb has also existed independently.

Stockpiling?..or saving and investing for the day when I can no longer work.....I'm doing what's best for my family and my grandchildren, I can not be held resposible for someone else's retirement or their families.

And as far as that wealth is concerned...ahmm..that would be me busting my ass for 40 some years working.

HELL NO

Lets just keep giving it to the rich.... That way it can trickle down instead of up... right?

Maybe we should find jobs for the poor, and train them for that job. A job is a gift that keeps on giving. However, we don't seem to be able to create jobs very well, since right now, we're outsourcing them, and if the outsourcing keeps up, soon we'll be another Third World nation.

If we give money to the poor, will they actually spend it on necessities, and how will we know for sure?

After all, I just blew off a government tax refund on cheap beer.

Here satellite and cable TV is more common on the very poorest of housing estates. Ditto household appliance rental, which costs around 3 times what it costs to buy new. Ditto alcohol consumption.

One reason people are poor is because they dont make the right decisions. From observation I'd say this is true of the great majority of poor, though not all.

Satellite and cable TV? Damn, even I don't have that stuff!

Over here, satellite and cable TV is for the rich. Or at least, the ones who own 10+ restaurants or a factory.
