    Subsistence Farming

I've been looking into subsistence farming heavily recently. I'd love to find out if anyone on her farms or has farmed and where and what.

I'd imagine you'd have trouble, subsistence farmers generally don't have time to sit in front of a computer for long periods of time.

I'll grow food in my backyard as soon as I'll have a backyard.
But I'm all for a kind of autonomy.

I'll take it that you have absolutely no farming experience?

Well not much actually. As soon as I finish my physics studies, I plan to work a bit so I can get a small amount of money to start, then I retire from society for a while.

sounds like a good idea. anyways, working on a report on costa rican agricultural communities, got in contact with a Realtor and I'm looking into buying land down there. im excited about it, i can't get it off my mind, its almost making politics seem boring.

Wow lucky you! South America is what I'm looking for as well, for the temperature. I can't really imagine comfortable subsitence farming in Quebec...

seriously. I live in California so I could probably do it hear, but there are no seasons in costa rica, which i love, so screw it! Easiest place to grow food in the world.

After watching "Man vs. Wild" I like to practice my survival skills in my apartment. To simulate a desert environment, I turn off the air conditioning. I then pee on my t-shirt and wrap it around my forhead to keep my temperature down. I flip the couch upside down, and pretend I've made a shelter out of a fallen log. Hunting for food amounts to chasing the cats around the room until I catch one. After I catch one, I pull some chicken out of the freezer and let it fester over so I can eat the maggots. It's fun, you should try it.
