Religious Authority Warns Women against Perfume, Flirtation

Turkey's Catalog of Sins: Religious Authority Warns Women against Perfume, Flirtation - International - SPIEGEL ONLINE - News

Quote:
"Women have to be more careful, since they have stimulants," the article states, according to a report in the Guardian. "The women communicating with strange men should speak in a manner that will not arouse suspicion in one's heart and in such seriousness and dignity that they will not let the opposite party misunderstand them, that they should not show their adornments and figure and that they should cover in a fine manner." It even goes so far as to equate flirtation with adultery, according to critics.

The article also discourages women from wearing perfume. "His highness the Prophet Muhammad did not think kindly of women who put on perfumes outside their homes and go strolling and saw this as immoral behavior," it continues.

The article also reportedly said women should not spend time together with men in private unless married and questioned the virtues of mixed-sex workplaces.

Lets trust the EU not to allow this country to join

Do the men have no responsibility? The men need to stop looking, and smelling, and talking and getting aroused. They treat women too crappy, and seem like a very unhappy bunch. Don't laugh much.

That Muhammed didn't sound like a very fun guy. How do these people get to be prophets is my question. Who decided he was a prophet, he did, if I'm not mistaken.

Well, if you're muslim, God did. Since when are prophets supposed to be fun, most besides Jesus tended to be pricks, and even jesus had his moments.

I love Muslims. Without them, who would I have to feel superior to?

Anyway, the best thing we can do is poison their culture with ours. Freedom is corrosive stuff :)

Destroying America one Volconvo post at a time.

Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause.

Most people were pricks back in those days. Could say that about today as well, but we have more luxuries, so we're more civil, generally.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall of some of those prophets and see what they were really like.

I'd say prophets had to be good salesman, so they had to have charisma, but who knows, maybe the people back then liked them mean. Times change as to what people like and dislike.

Thankfully the religious authority has no actual authority in Turkey, being constitutionally secular...

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

But it may become a case of de facto authority.

The Vatican tells its followers to do a lot of wacky things, what does that have to do with the Catholics that live in secular societies?

Maybe not as sexist in terms of lay people, but the pints the same, if you choose to freely follow religious advice, whether its don't eat fish on friday or be modest, there's nothing wrong.

I just find it funny, as a person raised in a Baptist church that condemned dancing and rock music, that when Muslims do it it's suddenly an evil thing that needs to be rectified.

I look at TV and listen to the radio in this country and think we could all do with a good ol' fashioned dose of "control". Now where did I put that box of burkhas?

I just thought of how boring tabloids would get if all the celebrities started wearing Burkhas, or clothes in general.
