The Brilliance of the Jews

I don't think the Jewish contribution to humanity is really mentioned enough. Between 1950 and 2000 Jews won 39% of medical nobel prizes despite only making up about 0.5% of the global population and having many of there acedemics killed in the gas chambers. That is just one example.
This is why I think it is a great pitty the Jews are spat on by both sides of the fence-left or right; arab league or USA theres just no way to win. Anyone else got any more examples?

Actually I was going to start a thread akin to this myself!

It seems that if you get together a bunch of celebrities 40% or something will be Jewish, and yet as you say they comprise a drop compared to the ocean of humanity.

Well the left traditionally seems to support Palestine and take a very critical line against Israel, which is often claimed to be racist... mostly unfairly.

We're already veering off-topic, but the fact that leftists tend to stress general Israeli mistreatment of people living in the territories occupied by its military plus various other violations of international law has nothing to do with anti-Jewishness -- especially a huge number of Jews are among the critics.

Also, if callous disregard (and even triumph) at the killing of innocent Arab civilians in order avenge a far smaller number of innocent Jewish deaths ain't racism, well I'm casting around for another term here, S., but not finding one.

To get back on topic, diaspora Jews have always had to survive by their wits. And this has been facilitated by the fact that Jewish culture prizes hard work, book-learning and various other ingredients for success in these areas.

I dont regard legitimate criticism of Israel as racist, but that is a common charge against the left who generally take the side of Palestine.

I would like to mention now that this post is not about the critisism of Israel but what the Jews have contributed to humanity. Israel and Judaism are not the same thing, there are many Arabs and Christians etc. in Israel.

I have to add that Judaism and Jews are too not the same thing. You don't have to believe in god to be a Jew though if do believe you must only believe in Judaism to be considered a Jew. It's all because Jews are ethno-religious community.

Plenty of Jews have contributed great things. Some of my favorite people are Jewish. For example, Einstein was Jewish, as was Emma Goldman. Both were opposed to theocracies, and were essentially anti-authoritarians. Lewis Black and Jon Stewart are also great. The list could go on.

Very true, but I would say its the European left, but its the American FAR left. In Russia of Eastern Europe its everyone who has a pulse, whether they are left or right.

Whats wrong with a little bit of nationalism. Most Jews are a distinct ethnic/cultural and religious group which has traditionally lived under the capricious mercy of other races. Naturally they would like their own nation.

Its just a shame that they chose an inhabited land of prime importance to another religion which settles its greivances through violence.
