![]() Hot Lava Posts: 1,124 | Lady Pope / Mullah / Priest / Rabbi Should we not expunge; or sue under sexual discrimination, those religions or sects within a religion for whom high earthly office or the theological accolade of scholar cannot be achieved? Due to the absurd and archaically prejudiced views from the past; such traditions lack the truth of the dynamics of love.. |

I believe in the U.S. private groups, which denominations appear to be, do not have to observe anti-discrimination laws like public institutions do. I'm not defending the practice, just pointing out the flaw in calling for a lawsuit. Probably acceptable in the EU, no doubt it would be an interesting case What about the International Court of Human Rights ? Jack it's appreciated that a lawsuit might not cut it. So does anyone consider such practices as being discriminatory despite the probable inability to prosecute | |

Most religious institutions, if treated equally with all other corporations, would be subject to numerous lawsuits and mostly likely driven out of business. An example of that is the recent judgment against Rev. Phelps and his clan of incestuous inbreds. To avoid this, religions clamor for and are awarded special consideration within society. Whilst claiming to be "not of this world" and "god's laws are not man's laws", the Christians, for example, certainly exploit the protection they're afforded under "man's laws". Huge tax-free cathedrals, monuments to greed, and discriminatory practices all go unchallenged. I find that telling, but perhaps off-topic, so I'll stop there. The Forum Rules Radical Atheist Heathen Queer Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be. | Igneous Magma Posts: 320 | I think it's absurd, but I don't think it's any *more* absurd than religions calling for genital mutilation, strange and no-longer-relevent dietary restrictions, etc. As far as suing, I dunno. As Jack indicated, at least in the US religion has the distinction of being a private entity, and even tho *some* discrimination has been successfully fought even within private organizations, I'm not sure you'd win or even have grounds.... you'd have to be a member OF that religion, for one, or they'd say you didn't have cause or something, blah blah blah... I think if all the women *left* those religions it might fix the problem rather neatly. ![]() |

Further, can you relate that to the topic? The Forum Rules Radical Atheist Heathen Queer Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be. (Ashleigh Brilliant) |

| Igneous Magma Posts: 320 | So what? "God" apparently "made" all MEN different, too. At least the last time I looked they didn't all appear to be clones......... (Note: I am not saying by this post that I have suddenly gained belief in a supernatural power.. I am using the terminology of the person I am quoting for convenience's sake) |
