Marcy Gant, 32, was convicted in October of purchase or sale of an individual and could have been sentenced up to 10 years in prison. Gant was arrested in October 2006 after offering her son to a retailer to settle a $200 bill for the dress. Police said Gant offered the trade at least twice. Gant's sons, ages 4 and 10 at the time, have been removed from the home by Iowa Department of Human Services. Prosecutor Julie Walton requested prison time for Gant, citing "out-of-control behavior" fueled by alcoholism.

That mother should be prohibited from ever having contact with those ever children again, she lost her right to them the moment she tried to sell them for a wedding dress. I feel the mother should get at least twenty years, unless someone thinks the sale of human beings should not be punished. And why is our government allowing the most evil crimes to be so lightly punished? There is a black market for the sale of human beings in America, sadly. And those unfortunate people suffer unimaginable horrors. What kind of message do you think we sent with this action? God help our country.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A thief tried to choke a 69-year-old nun who attempted to stop her from stealing a teacher's purse at a Catholic school, authorities said. Sister Marie Shields attempted to hold the thief, who then tried to choke the nun, breaking a cross on her necklace, police spokeswoman Amanda Ford said. The woman fled, and Sister Shields was shaken up, though not hurt. Detectives following leads in the case charged Emmie Jo Lowery, 35, of Columbus, with one count of robbery on Saturday. She remained at large Friday morning, Ford said. The woman entered St. Matthias School around 9 a.m. Nov. 21 while teachers and students were in a morning Mass and asked Sister Shields if she could use the phone, Detective Kim Atwood said. The nun told detectives she later saw the woman taking a purse belonging to a teacher out of an unlocked classroom and tried to stop her. "It's sad that it happened in a Catholic school," Sister Shields said Thursday. "We were trying to be kind."

Can you really sink any lower than this? The woman deserves a sever punishment, but I have my dobts that she will get one.

While even the thought of "selling a child" is repulsive, are we sure she wasn't just being sarcastic considering she was drunk? In no way am I defending this behavior, because it is disgusting, but was she really "seriously" trying to sell her child for a dress? Anyone in their right mind wouldn't think this barter is even considerable.
