PTSD and Soldiers - Video Report:

CBC.ca | The National | Archive | Military/Afghanistan | Mind Battle

This is an inside look on the effects, emotions and opinions of one returning Canadian soldier from Afghanistan and how his battle with Post Truamatic Stress Disorder has affected his life and who he used to be. This was filmed and documented right around November 11th, Rememberance Day in Canada. It looks into the systems in place for thsoe affected, what they go through, and the stigma which is attached to troops by their peers when they are affected by PTSD.

I posted this because I feel that the same proceedures, results and effects on Canadian forces in Afghanistan are also quite similar, if not larger and worse for those US soldiers who are fighting in Iraq with a larger stress level in comparison, as well as ammount of troops involved.

As our own troops are ment to be protecting us, the citizens and civilians, in turn I feel we must also protect them..... do you personally feel that the system in place in your country is adiquate enough to help your troops who do end up being affected by PTSD?

Do you know of a friend or family member who has gone through similar difficulties when they returned back home as this man did?

What else do you feel can be done to help our troops when they need it?

I think the government ought to provide counseling services to those affected by PTSD. In the US, we have the Department of Veterans' Affairs which has many doctors and therapists to treat both the physical and psychological wounds of war.

Yes, but is it effective enough? The Canadian Military has been improving resources and those for counselling, but it seems by the report that it is currently inadiquate.
