What exactly are our cell phone 3rd parties teaching our kids?

Here in Canada and I also imagine in the US, UK, and anywhere else Cell phones are popular, we get those stilly commercials on TV, usually during music countdowns, cartoons, teeny bop shows, etc, of these cell phone numbers which you call and text a word like "Buttons" to 5482 or whatever and you get something in your phone.

For example, the ones that were running through the music station here "Much Music" was one was you text "JOKE" and you get a joke in your cell phone to tell your friends each time for a small fee. Another is "The Best Pickup Lines" and "The Best Moves" "The Best Ways to Treat that Special Someone" etc.... in fact Much Music is kinda nutorious for promotion of the cell phone to text in to vote something in, or send in some sort of message, which all costs money. Not much, but over time it adds up.

Now I see jokes and nature pics, or something trivial as being alright for a little fee..... but when these companies start advertising to the teenage and younger youths who have cell phones, whom apparently have a good market to each person who just checks it even once, begin to start telling them hints and "How To's" in relationships and picking up a girl, exactly what kind of effect does this have on society as it develops?

I mean think about those pampered 11-14 year olds who have their cells all the time from their parents, they see these commercials, text to them to see some advice on how to get this other kid they're interested in? How to treat the other person decently for a lil som'in som'in.

I'm probably sure they're not so bad and perhaps funny.... but how do you know unless you pay them to hear one or two?

Oh here's the commercials again....

anyways, there's a market for this sort of thing at the moment, and it's mainly directed towards the impressionable, as to be expected... but it's for information provided by private companies which you have to pay for to access. At the moment, they're most likely trivial, but in time when they become acustomed to and every month or so you see one of these commercials you maybe interested in, from an early age.... what kind of tool could this possibly shifted into if one was so inclined?

There is no real complaints department... just the text number on the TV screen, and all that other legal garbage at the bottom is too small to read for most on TV due to it's lower resolution, which either the commercials were previously presenting on an HDTV screen or computer monitor to pass inspection to be aired, but not everybody has HD or are watching it on a computer, unless ripped from the TV onto the computer, in which case would still not have enough resolution.

So they basically allow you to phone only one number to contact them, which is the one you pay for to recieve another message.

I'm just curious what kind of regulations are placed on companies such as these, which don't seem to show any regulation or marketing trust.
