That came out wrong
There is medical uses for marijuana, but is replaceable. For medical purposes, marijuana should be taken with as much care as Vicodin and morphine.

however, for recreational use, marijuana isnt (i think) healthy for you.
Marijuana is nowhere near as dangerous as vicodin or morphine, which are basically heroin. As for it being replaceble, that is a classic cop out used by anti-weed advocates... What do you suggest replacing it with? Oxycontin, Percocet? Vicodin, Morphine? All heroin derivatives with extreme side effects, and extremely addictive properties. Ask any medical marijuana patient and they will tell you they have tried everything and marijuana is irreplacable.

As for recreational marijuana use being not healthy? so what? it's not going to kill you. Anything fun is risky. Flying a plane, surfing, rock climbing, etc. They all have health risks. But so what? Your gonna die some day anyways.

It's not a vitamin, but i would like a study stating how bad it is compared to a nice sloppy greasy fast food burger and deep fried over salted fries.
At least marijuana doesn't cause heart attacks and obesciety.
Thats right, but I also believe fast food companies should be charged extra for that crap. Plus, fast food is also addictive, and look at the empire they build. Could the same thing happen if Marijuana was legalized?

Oxycontin
correct me if im wrong, but thats cough medicine, not a pain killer. Or does it serve both purposes.

I'm not say marijuana shouldn't be illegal to use, but im pretty sure (not completely) that marijuana has replacements that are safer unless they cause an allergic reaction.

Oxycontin is a power synthetic narcotic.

"Oxy", short for oxycodone, or synthetic heroin, and "contin", to imply time release formula.

I'm a dork, but could you simple that down for use lay people?
The point I was making was whether or not Oxycontin and Marijuana were related in medical uses.

I would think they could both be used for pain management.

Not sure about other potential applications.

The people that like marijuanna for pain management like it because the alternatives are too powerful, or cause other complications that make taking those medicines counterproductive. ( Meaning the side effects are worse that the original problem for the individual in most cases. )

Right, so it should be reserved until the other ones don't work. Isn't that how the medical system works now?

If not, I know some docs that would be out of their mind.

I think the patient should be the ultimate authority. After all it is their body, and their existance that is at risk. Many people only consult the doctor for "advice".

I absolutely disagree. It maybe the patient's body, but that's something the patient knows little about (most of the time). A good example is a shot. when I was 5, i would rather get polio then the shot. Now I know better. Also, what if the patient has a headache and demands morphine for it. How do you know if he isn't just after the high?

I believe in representative democracy. Doctors rule

if its a question between marijuana or morphine, either one will get them high, and the stronger one (morphine, oxycotin, whatever) is the one the doctor tends to offer first

Children cannot make their own healt care decisions. The parent has authority over the child.

Adults, however, should be the ultimate authority of their own bodies.

Why oh why?
Especially if said adult is a religious fanatic that thinks that doctors are spawns of hell and that rubbing five month old lard on wounds is good for you. I trust the doc over any parent (unless they are one and the same. even then I still would go for doc, not parent.)

I think marijuanas most poignant application is with people undergoing radiation therapy. Also stomach cancer. There are many many many documented patient endorsements to the fact that they had NO APPETITE and could not eat. They tried marijuana and they could eat. It staves off unrelenting nausea. These things are truths, only doubted by those who have no illness to speak of.

This is a very good video that discusses medical marijuana from a non-bias standpoint. 17 minutes in length; YouTube - Medical Marijuana - USA

God! But seriously folks...

I own my body (while God really does, he lent it to me, but that's neither here nor there).

While I do own my body, I'm willing to let the smart person decide what is best for it.

IE, if i had a shine new Ferrari, but was a crap driver (which I am), I'd rather my friend drove it and got it home safe rather then myself (who would chip the paint in nineteen places.)
