New York may ban the b-word:

New York may ban the b-word

Quote:
New York City residents will be banned from using the slang words "bitch" and "ho," if some council members have their way.

Coun. Darlene Mealy of Brooklyn recently introduced a bill to prohibit the derogatory words, similar to a ban council passed earlier in the year on the use of the n-word, the New York Times reported.

"They buried the n-word, but what about the other words that really affect women, such as 'b' and 'ho'? That’s a vile attack on our womanhood," Mealy told the newspaper.

"In listening to my other colleagues, that they say that to their wives or their friends, we have gotten really complacent with it."

Zeroing in on the "b-word," as it is referred to in the legislation, Mealy said the term is hateful and deeply sexist and creates a "paradigm of shame and indignity."

The legislation was prompted by the use of the word in hip-hop music. Ten rappers were also cited in the legislation. It was introduced on July 25, and is expected to be discussed in September.

So far, 19 of the 51 council members have signed on to the proposed resolution.

Mealy acknowledged the bill cannot be enforced, saying it is meant to be more a symbolic gesture.
Cripes.... don't they have better things to do? I posted the article here about the N-Word, and so when I saw this, I had to post it.....

If you can't enforce these laws on swearing and they're just symbolic, then what's the point in wasting tax dollars and time on such a stupid concept?

The funny thing is that try and make a big case on how these words are derogetory and in a nut shell from their explination, basically ruin a girls life in society....

Come on... there are plenty of other insults out there for guys and other groups... yet they go and attack "Bitch" and "Ho"

What a waste of time and money..... How many more words do they plan on banning from the english language? Is everybody gonna be stuck in NY only being allowed to say "Eh, how u do'in?" and "Whas'tha'matta'wit'U?!"

Cool, it's time to move towards Neuspeak.

Once we "accepted" that the Blacks could bury the "N" word, I guess politicians decided it's time to implement the rest of their diabolical plan.

1984 here we come.

They'll just think up different words. Somebody will come up with something. It'll catch on, and then become part of the language, just like half the words in our vocabulary NOW,

Well, they've already banned transfats, so why not banning certain words? Sane residents of New York City would do well to get rid of your present city government before your lives get legislated away.

Are they implying that the phrases 'female prostitute' and 'endless whiney female complainer' are neither sexist nor derogatory? Or, are they saying such people do not officially exist and therefore the terms used to refer to them are always used towards the wrong people?

A lot of words have multiple meanings. When a guy tells his buddy he had a great date last night and the buddy says "All Right, you dog!", I don't think he means his friend is a canine.

.

Yes, words have double meanings, but they also have double standards depending on who says them to who.

Can you still use bitch as it refers to a female dog? And what if it seriously applies to a woman, it's too mucha part of our culture that an angry woman is always going to have whispers of the b word after her.

Great, another law created via the method of placating, feel-good legislation that will have no effect on reality except by fattening up the coffers of those emplacing it, and the city enforcing it.

Sheeple suck.

Sounds like another ill informed case of attempting to trade liberty for a measure of security.

And yes, sheeple suck!

I'm all for a witch hunt, and some stake burnings should the rest of you sane people think the case is extreme enough to warrant it.

Why not just round them up and put them in sheeple towns where laws like this are enacted? Being lazy doesn't warrant death, and they can make stuff for the world of sane people.

Let's just call these council members "bitches" and "hos."

Intellectual sloth that leads to the overthrow of my country should warrant a death sentence in my opinion.

Just like the witch hunts, and stake burnings of old, I think this could truly work to right the greater wrongs.

Hey, religious people did it, why can't we?

Perhaps their motivation was flawed, but the results cannot be denied.

The ugly reality of the situation is that the idiots are taking over, and we have to do something other than roll ever, and play dead.

Well that's true.... it didn't work very well back then..... But logically it could work today..... *snickers* .... go call up Bush and see if he can pass those in the next bill..... I imagine he'd go for it..... in fact, I think witch burnings and steakings are the only thing we're missing right now.
