Have we became the rude generation?

It has become apparant that people are no longer tolerant of others. Whether it be others actions, religion, lifestyle, comments or beliefs.

For instance, the lady and her child who were forced to miss thier flight because the flight attendant was not amused by the toddler simply being a kid.

Mom and chatty toddler kicked off flight - Travel News - MSNBC.com

Another instance a woman 7 months pregnant is handcuffed and put in a partol car w/no a/c and taken to jail because her yard is a mess. Granted it may have been an eyesore for the neighbors, but I think the actions taken were excessive.

Our society is quickly becoming overly litigious and paranoid. Any positive results of that seem likely to be outweighed by the negative results.

Yeah I heard about the messy lawn incident.... pretty sad if you ask me.... it's their property, and what they wish to do on that property should have no relation to the neighbors.... if she was making constant noise or something late at night, sure...... but that was just sad.....

It all roots back to the 80's and the political correctness bombardment of the time that has screwed us all up. We'll sue over the stupidest things, we'll compain about the most petty things....... yeah.... the majority of society has gone down hill.

lol, for tolerance...I think this time period is actually one of the most tolerant we've had in the history of man. We no longer chop off a mans hand for stealing, we do not support laws that are intolerant of ones race, age or gender.

But, rude in the classic sense of lacking refinement, and 'manners'...well, I would have to agree with you there.

Phone manners are a big pet peeve of mine. Parents are no longer teaching their children how to handle a phone. My little sisters friends, for instance, will call, ten, twenty times in five minutes. They don't understand that the constant ringing interruption of the phone is rude, and that when we don't answer we have a reason. Then, you get the buggers that call and when you answer the call say 'who is this?' I'm sorry, but you just called me. I have no obligation to tell you that, and the instant you heard a voice you didn't recognise you should have slipped into a formal mannerism.

More tolerant of the broader things sure, like race, sexual orientation etc but as ish said, we are also becoming overly litigious... everyone thinks the world owes them something when misfortune or even plain annoyance falls upon them.

I fully agree. However i fail to see any positive sites. Tolerance should be one of the most important bricks in the wall of a future society. Along with Freedom, Democracy, and Equality.

Some societies had some desirable aspects. But modern-day society is actually a bit less tolerant that some in the past.

I think that people are basing their observations on what they see and read on Internet forums and the gloom/doom media machine. In my real life I don't notice much of a difference. Black people are nearly replaced by Muslims as far as bigotry goes, and people still hold the door, let me merge, etc. etc.
