Documentation of the parents legal responsibilities

Several members have mentioned in the past that minors only have partial rights because they have partial responsibility. What actions of the minor are parents held responsible for, and how are they held responsible?(ie, what is the legal repercussion)

I'm having trouble finding any proof that they are held responsible for criminal actions done by the minor. Documentation please?

I don't think you'll find any.

After reading some posts, it seems that people were saying it should be that way.

PARENTAL LIABILITY

Parental liability is the term used to refer to a parent's obligation to
pay for damage done by negligent, intentional or criminal acts of his
child. In 47 states, parents are responsible for all malicious or
willful property damage done by their children; in 30 states, parents
are liable for all malicious or willful personal injuries inflicted by
their children. Eight states obligate parents only when their children
have acted illegally. Hawaii, Louisiana and Oregon hold parents
responsible for all torts committed by their children. Only Washington,
D.C. does not hold parents liable at all. All parental liability laws
limit the amount of liability to between $300 and $15,000, depending on
the state. See Table 11.2 in the appendix.

Parental Liability Basics
Parental liability is the term used to refer to a parent's obligation to pay for damage caused by negligent, intentional, or criminal acts committed by the parent's child. Parental liability usually ends when the child reaches the age of majority and does not begin until the child reaches an age of between eight and ten. Today, most states have laws relating to parental liability in various applications. Children's offenses can be civil and/or criminal in nature. Civil cases are lawsuits for money damages. The government brings criminal cases for violations of criminal law. Many acts can trigger both civil and criminal legal repercussions.

Civil Parental Liability

In most states, parents are responsible for all malicious or willful property damage done by their children. Laws vary from state to state regarding the monetary limits on damages that can be collected, the age limit of the child, and the inclusion of personal injury in the tort claim. Hawaii's parental liability law remains one of the most broadly applied in that it does not limit the financial bounds of recovery, and imposes liability for both negligent and intentional torts by underage persons.

Criminal Parental Liability

Laws making parents criminally responsible for the delinquent acts of their children followed civil liability statutes. In 1903, Colorado became the first state to establish the crime of "contributing to the delinquency of a minor."

Minors

A minor is a person under the age of majority. The age of majority is the age at which a minor, in the eyes of the law, becomes an adult. This age is 18 in most states. In a few other states, the age of majority is 19 or 21. A minor is considered to be a resident of the same state as the minor's custodial parent or guardian.

Insurance Coverage

Since homeowners insurance includes both property and liability coverage, wrongful acts of children or negligent supervision claims may be covered even if the act took place away from a policyholder's residence. Homeowner's policies typically cover legal liability in the event that anyone suffers an injury while on the insured property, even if the injury was committed by another household member or the result of negligence on the part of the policyholder.

Legally liable in the case of child support for an underaged father, or liable to assist their young daughter in the case of a pregnancy. I would assume that there is either something saying that

a) Once you've had a kid you are considered to an adult in reference to caring for the child, or that
b) you have a right to assistance from your parents.

Older teens may not have these specialties set aside, but with the rate of teen pregnancies, even as young as twelve, I would assume that something has been written.

I'm just finishing up that paper, and this would add a page or two in content, as well as give me a better ability to explain to teens that I debate with in the future that they do not have an inherent 'right' to sex or pregnancy.

I don't know for a fact, but I believe a child who creates another child would be a direct liability on the parents of the girl if over age 10 in any state, and the parents of the girl would have a right to seek "financial recuperation" for any costs incurred by the child if birthed.

I am betting if it is clarified in law anywhere specifically, it is at the state level, and not the fed level.

What state?
