If it didn't demand that, you wouldn't then have that right.
But T-man rights are inherent and are endowed by the creator according to the DOI. Government can't grants rights, except perhaps in a Monarchy, which we left behind a few centuries ago.

Then we agree. Every citizen has the right to apply for a college education, but nobody has the right to receive a college education; nobody has the education guaranteed.

Actually, now that I think about it, we don't really have the guaranteed right to learn anything in k-12, either. Because you have the legal right to sleep through 13 years of school and then drop out -- don't you?
We don't "receive" and education as in osmosis, or as if it is conferred upon us by a transfusion, we rather earn a education. So the closest we can come to this agreement is to agree we have the right to "earn" an education.:)

If "the creator" gives us an inherent right to live, how is murder possible?

Indeed, who does say?

How do we know which rights we actually have and which aren't legitimate?

I go by the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

Thus, the rights granted by those documents only exist in the context of their enforcement by said government.

T-man: Repeat after me: Rights are not granted by documents or governments. According to the DOI and the Constitution, they are inherent "unalienable rights granted by the creator......and we hold these truths to be self evident". I don't know how to write it any other way.

Are you dense or just being obstinate? I prefer to think the latter but your last few posts have me guessing now.

If they are granted by the creator, then why doesn't the creator enforce them?

How convenient.

Not in the job description but it is in the Constitution. Any more silly questions?
