Children 'need lessons in happiness'

Children 'need lessons in happiness' | Uk News | News | Telegraph

Quote:
All schoolchildren should have "happiness" lessons up to the age of 18 to combat growing levels of depression, according to a senior Government adviser.

Pupils should study subjects such as how to manage feelings, attitudes to work and money, channelling negative emotions and even how to take a critical view of the media, said Lord Richard Layard, a Labour peer and professor of economics at the London School of Economics.
Should this not be parental responsibility or at least shared?

Most definitely, the parents should be responsible for this. The unfortunate fact however, is that many parents treat schools and teachers in such regards as to require that they be the parent as well. It's a misconception, in my opinion, between what a teacher and a parent is.

Welcome to Volconvo!

I would be interested to read these articles that say that children's self confidence is in fact too high. Please post some links if you still have them. :)

Parents can not teach what they do not know, and this thread should have had much more attention.

We are no longer ordered by family values as we once were, and this has everything to do with the change in public education and change in social values and expectations. I expect plenty of arguement from those who have no memory of when mothers stayed home, and women were valued for their domestic skills. We I see 80 year old women who are still like little girls, I want to throw up, and I can strongly argue what was wrong in the past. However, there were rights too and we need to think about them.
