Let me first make the point that I love my microwave oven, TV, and computer. These, and the infinite other application of technology, are the trappings of today's life that, for many of us, make civilization possible. It allows us possibilities that all we take for granted. But has anyone really considered what might be some negative results of an increasingly technologically driven society? Has the latest in computer programming allowed us to make another Beethoven symphony? Has the progress in visual optics reached the point where we can put a Rembrandt piece to shame? Does today's rap "music" put the lyrics of Shakespeare's siliques to shame? I guess my point is that, while technology has given us more than anyone of us can truly comprehend or appreciate, we've suffered culturally as a result of the laid back lifestyle that technology has created. Your comments are appreciated. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light." -Dylan Thomas |
