Crusades? Holocaust? Not in UK Schools.

Quote:
Teachers are dropping controversial subjects such as the Holocaust and the Crusades from history lessons because they do not want to cause offence to children from certain races or religions, a report claims.

A lack of factual knowledge among some teachers, particularly in primary schools, is also leading to “shallow” lessons on emotive and difficult subjects, according to the study by the Historical Association.
Schools drop Holocaust lessons to avoid offence-News-UK-Education-TimesOnline

Now, you can call me some sort of bigoted, right wing fanatic if you want, but isn't this going... oh about several miles on to the wrong side of stupid with this?

"Oh the poor dears, they are taught the Holocaust didn't happen and that the Crusades are taught in their mosques completely differently, we can't offend them now can we?"

If you want to lose your country, here's one stone laid in that road.

Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" is still being challenged to this day, but by consensus Global Warming is a fact... that's REAL science at work, why didn't Albert just go that route?

If these people are really offended about what they or there kids are learning in school they better suck it up, its history nothings going to change it. I cant believe that the UK government is thinking about giving into theses people.

Many parts of history are offensive, especially European history. Regardless they need to teach it.

History is History, if you are offended by the actions of people long long dead and in an era when behavioral norms were far different then today...

You need to learn two things:

1. Objectivity
2. Context.

The founding fathers of America were not perfect in allowing Slavery to last. But in context of the times, they were WAY ahead of their times in terms of human rights and laws.

truth and knowledge shouldn't be suppressed just because there is a slight possibility it might offend someone.

Least of all History as it is already set in stone and cannot be changed. at most I can be apologetic, but I cannot "change" history to suit someone else so why complain about it?

Kids in Hong Kong get to know about the Opium Wars when HK was still a British colony. People are getting so PC it's scary.

Itis merely the cowardly government in the UK folding to the demands of the minorities. The implications are clear and the folks in the UK will reap the rewards of such revisonist BS many times over. They are the laughing stock of the free world.

I was taught in school about slavery, the Trail of Tears, the Conquesados (Sp?) giving Native America disease invested blankets etc. History should be taught regardless of the effects on people.

Yea it can, just as PatrickHenry, Milton and the other 9/11 deniers. History can change quickly, since perception is reality.

How are the crusades controversial? It's always presented as the barbaric christians destroying the wonderful Islamic civilisation, which it was, but the Muslims were expansionists who employed the same tactics as the crusades, so it wasn't like they were unwarranted.

Firstly, you shouldn't drop shit because some ignorant jack ass's get offended. What next, math? Language? This is just stupid. If they don't learn holocaust facts from the school they're going to grow up ignorant and believe it never happened because they read it on some racist website and it's the first thing they here about it.

I guarantee if you do background checks on the people who did this you'll find racism. Guarantee it.

What happens when they don't know about the crusades, One of the most important world changing events in the middle ages, and the holocaust, one of the most important events of the 20th century that formed the way we think today. You know what, I'm offended by the defeat of the french in WW2, I feel it portrays the french as weak and easily defeatd, It shouldn't be taught!

Has there been any offence to children or parents or is this just a precaution?
