Ohio citizens get a chance to address the FCC 3-7-07

Quote:
This Wednesday, tell the FCC how well the media are serving people in Ohio.

Please join FCC Commissioners Jonathan Adelstein, Michael Copps and Robert McDowell -- along with hundreds of concerned citizens from your community -- for a public hearing on the future of media.

Date: Wednesday, March 7, 2007
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Location: Broad Street Presbyterian Church
Address: 760 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205
(Directions and Map)
More Information: Stop Big Media - Columbus Speaks Out

The hearing is free and open to the public and will feature an open microphone session for you to give the FCC your perspective on media consolidation. Click here for further details.

This is a rare chance to participate directly in creating media policies that serve the public interest. Now that the FCC is again considering sweeping changes to the nation's media ownership rules, your input is critical.

But, we can't do this alone.

Quoted from my e-mail.

I know there are some folks in this forum from Ohio, so if you are, or you can make it to Columbus and you're tired of media consolidation destroying the quality of your information, and the reputation of a free press, now is your time to speak out.

If you are from the Toledo area and thinking of going, and don't mind an extra rider, PM me.

Why is it we only get notice when it's not a local event?

Allow me to answer. It's the damned local media!

I wish I could participate. I mean, I really wish I could participate.

Are you seeing less local content, less substantive news, more sensationalism, commercialism, or more
standardized programming?
It is stated by Freepress this is the last oportunity to say something before some FCC rules change. I need to read about that.

Actually Kevin Martin said it according to Freepress

Quote:
Chairman Kevin Martin, a Republican, has served as a commissioner since 2001. He was named chairman by
President Bush in March 2005, following the departure of Michael Powell. As Chairman, Martin has lobbied to
“update” the longstanding prohibition on newspaper/broadcast cross-ownership.

I didn't get to go. That is our problem. I'd like to meet some of you at an event like this.
