SAN FRANCISCO - A man who approached Nobel Peace laureate and Holocaust scholar Eli Wiesel seeking an interview at a San Francisco hotel last week later roughed him up, police said.

Police are investigating the incident in which they say a man, who may have been a Holocaust denier, approached Wiesel in an elevator at a peace forum at the Argent Hotel Feb. 1 and requested an interview.

When Wiesel consented to talk in the hotel's lobby, the man insisted it be done in a hotel room and dragged the 78-year-old off the elevator on the sixth floor, police Sgt. Neville Gittens said.

The assailant fled after Wiesel began to scream, and Wiesel went to the lobby and called police.

this is pathetic. the guy then bragged about it on ziopedia.org whos headlines yesterday featured a claim by an italian professor that the blood libel had been true.

how pathetic do you have to be to accost an 80 year old holocaust survivor?

I think shrike and notworthabean didn't read your post properly. Maybe by "people looking for the truth," you mean journalists or something. Obviously, you say "holocaust survivor," not pseudo-holocaust survivor.

Anyway, this intense stigma against those who even have an inkling of dislike against Jews is part of the reason why they're even more disliked. Many people are thinking, why are they such a special cultural group, especially considering that many other such groups have gone through more horrific things in even more recent times than fifty years ago.

So, whatever, shrike and notworthabean, your attacks on jose are unwarranted, because I think that obviously from what he said in this quote, you've misinterpreted him.

P.S. has anyone here ever read "Night" by Wiesel?

Well, many Jews tell Muslims to suck it up and forget, so that seems awfully hypocritical. Anyway, do we determine who is most persecuted from the quantity of years they were persecuted or what? I know so many people who've gone through much more severe persecution in a shorter time than the Jews, and they're still going through it today. And besides, they've got it really good today.

For instance, us Indians have undergone more years of persecutions with countless invasions e.g. the Khushan invasions, the Mughal invasion, etc., and oppression by the English, and there are still countless enemies.

I'm not necessarily saying it's good to persecute Jews or anything, but come on, there's a undue emphasis on them.

The Problem was a guy who believed Wiesel had not told the ¨truth¨ (as he saw it)

Wiesel grabbed at his chest and yelled for help, according to the posting. “I told him, ‘Why don’t you want people to know the truth?’ His expression changed, and he began screaming again. …” the posting reads.Police reported that the suspect tried to force Wiesel into one of the rooms, but ran away when Wiesel started yelling.

The online posting states that the writer intended to “bring Wiesel to my hotel room where he would truthfully answer my questions regarding the fact that his non-fiction Holocaust memoir, Night, is almost entirely fictitious.”

and i stated the old boy should have some kind of bodyguard when speaking in public.

And yes i do believe the Holocaust happened, as i have said before Shrike here in Spain we also have victims of the holocaust

No one challenged him on his story for 30 years, until a historian Benito Bermejo proved that Marco had never been in a concentration camp in his life (apart from giving speeches in commemoration) this Marco admitted and was forced to resign as president of the association of the deported. I will say i have never read the book night and therefor cannot comment on its truthfulness.

Wiesel came to my high school when I was there, He was a very passionate speaker, but never political, he just spoke out against apathy towards atrocity. I was very impressed by his speaking skills as well. Night and the rest of his books are amazing. It's sad that people beat up an old man because he doesn't agree with them.
