Taunting New Orleans Fans About Katrina!!!

Glad to see the Bears in the Superbowl. I was lucky enought to get tickets to watch the slaughter. I feel good nature "shit talk" to other fans is fine. I regularly enjoy it.

However, I heard a few of my fellow Bears fans insensitive taunt some Saints fans, with comments like, "The Bears are going to pick up where Katrina left off" or "Katrina has nothing on how Chicago will flatten New Orleans."

Would this be chalked up to playful banter or going to far?

I personally thought these comments went too far, sport rival should always come second to real life tradegies.

That said Da Bears fiftee- tree Da Colts zero

I think it is over the line, but what can we do about it except say something when it happens.

There are a lot of assholes in the world, and freedom of speech exists.

I think the mature thing is to ignore it, and practice more for next year.

Obviously I ignored as did many of the Saints fans. It is just shocking to see where some fans will go.

I think its shocking too. Shows the shallowness of their character more than anything. Sometimes I would like to thank them since its an easy way to automatically recognize who you "don't" want to be around without investing time or effort.

Should? Sporting events took the place of the Roman Colosseum, its basically the same thing...

Which is why i'm not a big sports fan for the most part. I like some, but in the end, you see people who revolve their whole lives around a sport and act like they're a part of the team.

Egos are a big factor in fans and I notice sometimes fans can take things a tad too far.... it's a friggin game... I don't think the above comments were appropriate, and they should have been ganked.

If people made as much room in their memory for political happenings and history as they do for proffessional sports, this nation would be a pinnacle of knowledge, and probably the best run nation on earth.

People are always going to demonstrate insensitivity. It is a test of the moral fiber of the listener to either correct it, ignore it, or move on. Go Bears!

Wait! Are you suggesting that a crowd of drunken football fans might be rude and insensitive?

I'm shocked! Absolutely shocked!

In Europe, some 'soccer' (*cough*)fans are continually accused of racism (especially in Spain, they have a particular notoriety).

This is like giving the Nazi salute, or making monkey noises or booing at black players. Sol Campell got a coin lobbed at him in a match (I think).

I probably reckon this is too far, even with free speech and all. Especially when football is an intrinsic part of european society and many children will grow up embroiled in the atmosphere of games, I hate to think that racism is passed on through generations.

Sport is so emotional that I guess people can get carried away and team bashing is part of the fun of being a fan...

I don't see those "attacks" as particularly abusive, or over the line.

To me, it would seem if you have recovered enough to attend a football dame, your adjustment back into society is nearly complete, and you should just deal with that sports, and sporting events bring out the these types of verbal attacks. Just fueling that fighting spirit.

We can't all be winners.
