Cynthia Sommer: Alleged Husband Killer

Here is the source.

In a murder trial that began in California this week, a young mother is accused of using arsenic to kill her Marine husband to, according to prosecutors, pay for plastic surgery and a shopping spree.
This is just an example of the primitive selfishness that corrupts societies.

I was going to post this in that Breaking News section, but I figured it's not extremely significant. Any thoughts?

Make sure to vote in the poll.

Any suspect in a US Court of Law is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and in this case, beyond a reasonable doubt. It is interesting to see how people decide for themselves who is guilty before the outcome of a trial is decided by a jury of one's peers.

btw, my choice was other because of this most valuable aspect in our justice system.

Notice I say alleged action, and assuming she did commit the crime, we evaluate her based on that. Of course we're not making an official decision on whether she did it or not. I'm afraid you've chosen the wrong answer.

She's already guilty in the eyes of the media. I like how one of the related stories is Signs Your Spouse Would Murder You. God damn vultures.

I'd like to thank Charlie Hodge, bringing me scarves and water.

Cynthia

If she did do it, and apparently the state thinks she did, this was very cruel. She may have had other reasons, but you can always get a divorce if you hate someone that much.

I fail to read where you wrote alleged anywhere.

Furthermore, one poll question says nothing of the sort. It reads:

Quote:
No, she's a criminally seflish killer
This perhaps, shows me whomever selects this option is probably prejudiced and will not consider she is innocent until proven guilty. I mean that may be ok in your mind but it leaves no room to assume her guaranteed innocence before conviction. This is all I am pointing out.

Well, innocent until proven guilty is really a given. I took from the poll options that we were assuming her to be guilty for the purposes of the thread. After all, there’s not much to debate if she is presumed innocent.

Then I guess the thread is meant to bash the woman as guilty.

Notice the whole thread title and the poll question per se. We're discussing here based on the assumption that she did it. We're not particularly discussing her specific situation per se, but we're evaluating her crime and all those just like that.

Many of us have our own thoughts about her guilt/innocence even before she's declared guilty/innocent. Also consider that even when the U.S. courts call her guilt/innocent, they may be wrong.

Yes, we're operating under that assumption. And it's not a given, but it might be thought of as most just.
