Top 30 Scariest Movies Ever

I thought the Omen and Poltergeist is the scariest movie of all I guess I was wrong; The Omen took the 30th spot and Poltergeist on the 21st.

i liked the sixth sense, even though it might not be called horror. horror movies are best when they don't try to be too hardcore horror such as nightmare on elm street etc

I think Alien is possibly one of the best movies on there if not the best horror movie. While the beginning is somewhat drawn out and 2001 in nature, once they enter the derelict the movie really shines and does just about everything right. In terms of sheer scares it's not that haunting, I suppose. However, that's after watching the movie more times than I count and knowing when certain things are going to happen. I will admit to having a bias toward the first two movies though so I'm inherently skewed.

Though the Exorcist is really quite good and I can see it in the #1 slot. The acting is powerful, and the sound and visuals adding to the overall atmosphere of the film are truly terrifying to the young and not so horror movie cultured.

It's hard for me to judge scary movies in terms of actual scares since I haven't really been scared since I beat Silent Hill 2. :p

I remember Candyman as being pretty scrary. Although, it's been a very long time since I've seen it.

"1. The Exorcist"

All I can say is.. WTF?

That movie is possibly the worst "scary" (and I use the term very loosely) movie.

Actually the scariest movie ever is "Gigli." Actually, just kidding. Off the top of my head, the scariest movie I've seen is probably "The Exorcist." Then again, I haven't seen a lot of scary movies.

Anyone ever see the Japanese movie "Audition?"

That one is pretty bizarre.

The first Shining is my scariest. Videodrome was pretty good too.

I was going to say that earlier, but I couldn't remember the name of it. In the comic I draw, there is someone in the sack (If you saw it, you'd know).

I say the same thing any time this question comes up.

The all-time scariest movie ever made is Fail Safe. If you haven't seen it, find a copy and you'll know what I mean.

Not a day goes by that I don't see something that reinforces my belief that people are idiots.

The Exorcist. Amytiville Horror. The Shining.

I feel bad because I've never seen your comic. Could I? (Maybe not today but some time in the not too distant future?)

The Shining.
The Shining is definitely a good one. The Omen is pretty awesome. And I also like Rosemary's Baby (which has one of the weirdest scenes in a film I've ever seen and probably ever will see).

I meant, if someone had seen the movie, they'd know about "the sack". But, I'll post the comic anyway. The movie inspired quite a few of my comics and characters, but I'll post only one.

OH for the love . ...THE EXORCIST????? Honestly I dont think I have ever seen a movie that really scared me since I was a child , and those two movies were Return of the living Dead ..I still have an escape plan should there be a Zombie attack, and House of wax with Vincent Price , I dont think I went into my basement for quite a while , after that cause I thought somone was going to dip me in wax while I was still alive and turn me into an exhibit...seriously though , I think my mother frightened me more than any movie ever could . I can recall her sneaking up the steps and grabbing me while still in my crib, and just going boo..or the horrible mask that looked like the ghost in the window in the movie Creepshow , she called it " The Collector", and left it on her nightstand , with the light on in her room so we wouldnt leave our rooms ...I imagine I could pay a therapist alot of money talking about the crap my mom put us kids through ,,,,,but now almost in my thirties I think my mom is cool as hell.

Guess my Glasgow Coma scale score and win a prize!!!!

That list of movies is way off in my opinion. I mean come on, The Gremlins? That movie was funnier than it was scary.

Word, The Exorcist was a good movie, but not scary in the least.

Now, the all time scariest movie is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I've never seen a horror movie shot in the daytime, which gave it a more realistic feel to it. A family of depraved cannibal who eat tourists? A chainsaw weilding beast of a guy who wears a mask made out of human skin? The living room where all the furniture is adorned with human skulls and bones?

That movie is absolutley terrifying. I've always been more scared of psychopaths and murderers than ghosts or demons.

The movie Creepshow with the abomidable monster type thing under the staircase in the school.... That was freaky!

Jeepers Creepers during the part where they look up and see the walls/ceiling covered in bodies....

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with that kid catcher!!!!

And finally, The Wizard of Oz wicked witch of the west still scares me.
