I concur with your point about non monetary charity, yet I suspect those who give more money probably also donate more time as well.
But it doesn't need to be that way. At my poorest, and unemployed, I gave my time to charities - mainly Nursing Homes and Hospitals.

During my school years I volunteered. Raising my children, I forced them into volunteering. (They didn't mind. Found it uplifting even.)

We have a duty in this and it's time we start expressing it as such. How cool would it be, if schools mandated voluntary work for the 13-15 yr olds as a part of the ciriculum, with a fail across the board for those who do not give of themselves for the higher ideal - charity and goodness.

My point exactly. The only reason I tied those who give money as opposed to those who give time was to illustrate that they probably come from the same segments of society.

We all need to give what we can irrespective of any political affiliation given the state of poverty half the world lives in , although it doesn`t surprise me that conservative minded people donate more than Liberals. I know quite a few people who aren`t at all well off and who donate to charity all the same. This pinch they feel given how little they have is admirable in my opinion.
