Les Claypool for Bass?
Les Claypool for Bass?

You would probably not have even heard of any of the others on my list.but I note you didn't even find ten to list,
Alexi Laiho, Herman Li, Jani Liimatainen, Allan Holdsworth, Pat Metheny.

Pat Metheny...Quote by: Chris the Chees
The others: Allan Holdsworth, I only have access to one recording, All Night Wrong
I admit he is not familiar to me as most of the others are, but this thread is to acquaint our friends with stuff we like and possibly to share our joy. So I'm checking Holdsworth out.
Sonata Arctica, Jani Liimitainen, I got no access to their stuff.
Herman Li, I confess I am not a fan of power metal, and find their fascination with darkness incomprehensible, but admire fast licks, technical expertise, and soaring solos.
Alexi Laiho, Children of Bodom, sorta the same as above...I hate death metal vocals, and despise satanic imagery and antiChristian themes, while acknowledging the guitar mastery...
"Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense." -- John Adams

Dragonforce are not a dark band, at all. They openly say that they are not to be taken seriously and all they sing about is nonsense. Most of their lyrics are based on computer games and Lord of the rings, from what I can gather.Herman Li, I confess I am not a fan of power metal, and find their fascination with darkness incomprehensible, but admire fast licks, technical expertise, and soaring solos.
Well thats fair enough, Children of Bodom aren't for you.Alexi Laiho, Children of Bodom, sorta the same as above...I hate death metal vocals, and despise satanic imagery and antiChristian themes

Besides the obvious that have already been listed. Not in priority of order.Quote by: PatrickHenry
Andre Segovia Classical
Leo Kotke for folk / acoustic 6 and 12 string. Sounds like 2 guys playing.
Rory Gallagher. Irish Rocker who was a crowd pleaser. Deceased from the drink
Roy Buchannon for electric blues Passed over.
BB King for blues w/ Lucille. The quintessinal bluesman still going strong.
Buddy Guy. The tops in small club bluesmen.
Jorma Kaukonen. He and Jack Cassidy made it sound so easy.
Duane Allman. Melodic slide work with EC on Layla and Live at the Filmore w/A.B. B.
NB: Agree with Pat about Zappa. A classical trained musician whose arrangemets are still innovative. Check the Hot Rats cuts for things like Peaches En Regatta, WIllie the Pimp, etc..
Edit: Sorry Aequo & MB, I just noticed you both listed Duaney Boy.

Except for Fripp and Gilmour, that's an utter cheesefest. And yes, Hendrix tops my list.Quote by: Chris the Chees
Here is my list--it's subject to change, of course:
1. Hendrix (Listen to the solos on "All Along the Watchtower" and get back to me).
2. Tom Morello
3. Frank Zappa
5. Tony Iommi
6. Dick Dale
7. Buckethead
8. Noodles & Dexter Holland (of the Offspring--for the wall of guitar sound on Smash)
9. Chuck Berry/Bo Diddley (I have a record of them playing together and it is awesome)
10. Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth)
11. Leo Kotke (I added him because someone else mentione him here--also, Ry Cooder is pretty innovative).
I should include myself to the list:

Gramps.. Sure glad someone else around here knows of, and appreciates, Leo. I have been following him since 1970 when I saw him play in Putney Vemont. I just wanted to quit playing because I knew I could never reach that level of competence. Talk about being blown away.Quote by: grandpa
People should just experience Machine # 9...........He did a great rendition of World's turning as well. If one likes 12 string acoustic, they have to listen to Kotke. :)

I like his tone a lot. And it's not squeeky clean, perfect music, too. It's both delicate sounding and raw.Quote by: brien
