A Baptist group from Kansas has announced it plans to picket Friday at the funeral of Spc. Adam Harting.

The Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, is not specifically targeting Harting, who died in Iraq last week.

It pickets at military funerals all over the country, saying God is killing U.S. soldiers as punishment to America for allowing homosexuality.

The group also has announced plans to picket at military funerals in Minnesota, Alabama and California this week.

Army Sgt. Bob Jaso, military liaison to the Harting family, said the group tries to provoke physical confrontation with mourners.

Wow. They offend me on so many different levels.

Nice upside down flag. Tell me these people care about the United States of America and what she stands for. Is "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" not good enough for them? Why target the military in particular, as if they are responsible for any of the social movements advocating homosexuality? They should be marching in front of gay and lesbian foundations that regularly champion homosexual rights in the political arena, or lobbying government officials. This is blatantly disrespectful to military families, and they accomplish nothing by targeting their grief.

As a Christian who is totally against homosexual marriage for a number of secular reasons, I must say that those photos turn my stomach. These people who preach that God hates anyone are so horribly misguided that they should be physically prevented from engaging in such speech.

The photo of the cute young girl holding the GOD HATES YOU sign was particularly offensive.

You are absolutely wrong, Belverron. I don't wish any ill on homosexuals. I just have never heard any sound explanation for what basis they think they are being discriminated against, when we clearly allow them to get married if they just follow the established guidelines. I know some emotional noob will come along and say it's all about love, or that it won't hurt anyone, but I've already presented plenty of evidence to silence those folks in the Homosexual Marriage thread.

The fact is, I am simply against gay marriage, not gays, and anyone who tries to lump the two together doesn't have any idea what marriage is about.
