In a closed door House GOP meeting Thursday, Indiana congressman and gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence likened the Supreme Court's ruling upholding the Democratic health care law to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to several sources present.

He immediately apologized.

"My remarks at the Republican Conference following the Supreme Court decision were thoughtless. I certainly did not intend to minimize any tragedy our nation has faced and I apologize," Pence said in a statement to POLITICO.

Pence is a former member of Republican leadership who is considered the frontrunner to become governor of Indiana.

The fact that you characterize it as "forced government donations" to me, suggests that you do not contribute to charities or anything else. Nothing else you say is likely to sway me on this opinion.

Case in point. When called upon to support the people who have poor health in our society these responses that compare it to 9/11--an event in which 3,000 people fucking died--makes me think that, maybe, the people saying these things might just be tad bit selfish. Instead of paying for those poor people gladly, and thinking "there but for the grace of God go I," you start squealing about how your freedoms are being impinged and how Obama is the next Hitler.

Okay, it's easy to say all of that, but can you provide any proof that Obama & co's actions are worse than those of the 9/11 hijackers?

The thing is, having a healthy population is in your interest, too, whether you'll see it or not. You'd rather have a few extra dollars every month and possibly die in a preventable epidemic because you wouldn't pay for people to have vaccinations. I'm sorry, but I just don't think that's a very far-sighted or intelligent position to take. Same with education. You'd rather deal with a bunch of uneducated, ignorant people and reap the consequences of not having enough skilled labor than pay for people to get educations.

It strikes me as so obvious that these things are good for everyone in society that selfishness and ignorance are, as I see it, the only possible reasons to be against them.
