Obama allows some young workers to stay; Republicans flip

IMHO, if you've been in the country for a while and either graduated college or served in the military and otherwise demonstrated an intent to be a productive citizen, you should be able to stay.

Obama apparently agrees with me completely, and in an unexpected burst of awesomeness his administration has started granting two-year work permits to anyone who meets certain criteria.

The conservatives are, of course, completely and utterly pissed off by this dubiously legal attempt to apply common sense to our immigration policy.

Today has been a good day for politics.

The more you complain, the less I care about your problems.

Illegal is illegal. Even though you may have been a fine upstanding citizen since then, you started off your stint here by willfully breaking our laws. The just confirms the fact that the left has no respect for our land, it's people, and our laws.

We shouldn't give work permits to jaywalkers either. Illegal is illegal!

On a more serious note, if American chauvinists are going to proclaim that America is such a great country, then shouldn't they be flattered that people are actually listening to them and making every effort to get here?

Personally, I seek unity for all proletarians, no matter where they are from.

Legal citizens, regardless of being "jaywalkers", don't require work permits....but I'm sure you know how silly your response is.

    Who says we're not?

Maybe you should take note of these people who flock to the US because we ARE such a great country, rather than shitting on it at every opportunity.

And IMHO, this is nothing more than pandering for votes. obama couldn't give a shit less about immigrants, or he would have done this long ago. He's merely taking a small risk for a large return - the Hispanic vote. A good day for politics?? Not at all, just another day of sleeze from those elected whores violating their oath to uphold the law.

I upped my income, up yours.

Glorious, isn't it? This is the same guy who decided to just not enforce DADT, and who killed Osama and al-Alwaki illegally. Obama is a frighteningly prudent man, and I think most of his critics would agree with me on that.

Zeebadee, you're absolutely right that this is partly about minority votes. I'm waiting to see if he does anything else weird to try to make marijuana legal because he needs to court younger voters. This is how our system works.

"Osama and al-Alwaki" aside, everything else goes to show that he's all about the votes and catering to whichever group will provide more.

As are the GOP. As is every political party. The conservatives over here are going for a more right wing stance on immigration because they are losing votes to UKIP.

The policy its self I have no issue with. Its not going to encourage more people to come. Its just about folks who are already there.

I may be mistaken, but the provision of the policy stipulates that the person came to America as a child. I'm pretty sure "sins of the father" laws are medieval.

A man said to the universe:
    "Sir, I exist!"
    "However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
    A sense of obligation."

    Like button broken.

In other news, Rush Limbaugh has a deliciously ignorant spin on the specifics of this law. He ignores the fact that this does not apply to everyone and that a two-year work permit does not let you vote. I, for one, will miss reading this man's perspective when he finally keels over.

Are you saying that a child coming here illegally didn't break the law?

I suppose we're just going to act like this wasn't some pathetic last minute bullshit to pander for the Latino vote?
