I believe most people do not have a problem with gays any more, despite what organized gays say. What many straight people DO have a problem with, however, is the "in your face" stuff. Over the years I have come to know several gay men and I don't think any of them wanted anything to do with "gay pride parades" and the like. Of course the gays I knew were no different from myself (which was why we got along). They suppressed nothing but also didn't yell "look at me" all the time. I don't believe most really WANT to be the center of attention and people like Boy George would NOT be welcome in their circles.
BTW, how come I never see "heterosexual pride parades"? Dammit, I want equal rights. I want a parade without having actually DONE anything to earn one! You know, like Saint Patricks day. :)
