They probably can't be compassionate for gays because they do not understand them. They lump gays in the same category as pedophilia, or serious perversion (sexual deviants.)

And their strong sense of "morals" is obviously the reason they object to homosexuality.

And TBH I'm a little annoyed at Glee as well. I was drawn to it because I liked some of the songs and the humor...but Kurt/Curt is easily the most annoying character on the show. His gay interactions are just emphasized too much.

Look, I get why people can be uncomfortable with openly gay people.. Its the same mentality as those that were upset by interracial couples etc. Its a generational thing, and will soon go away over time. My kids will not view gay couples anymore differently than I do an interracial couple ( non-issue). And yes I know that these "issues" still exist, but its on the way out. So if you are gay and feeling like things are tough.. be assured that its a period off transition, and things are changing... acceptance is inevitable.... its all good.

People that are "homophobic" are not evil by any stretch.. they are just having a hard time dealing with change.. they will either come to accept it, or go to their grave not getting it... either way... life goes on, and the issues of one generation, typically do not carry over to the next.

What I truly have a hard time wrapping my brain around is why anyone would truly care if two gay people want to get married, or be happy together with each other, or live an open life etc. Well, I take that back... I do understand why they wouldn't accept it, what I don't understand is why they would actively campaign, or even vote against something that would allow people to simply be happy and allowed the same rights under the law as we would want for ourselves....

I see intolerance as a lesser evil, not akin to murder or rape, but an evil none the less. My reason for thing it is evil, is that it combines two factors which embody evilness: malicious intent, and negative consequences. Homophobic attitudes are in of themselves malicious intents, as well as the other hostilities that are brought upon it. Such attitudes can easily lead to discrimination which is a negative consequence.

So yeah it's evil, but not that evil.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that evil is a shallow concept, an intellectual shortcut that does much more harm than good. Motives and intents are vastly more complex than the good/evil paradigm.

If we're asking if homophobes are morally wrong rather than evil, I'd say yes, as much as a person can be morally wrong while thinking they're morally right.

I'm a bit confused by this. Will you tolerate LGBT rights, but not an LGBT presence in the media? I think it's worthwhile to point out that gays consume the same media, which is overwhelmingly heterosexual, with little complaint. Yet when they're represented in a single TV show, you're annoyed.
