    Economy

    How true is this quote:

"Efficiency, Sustainability, and Preservation are the Enemies of our Economic System"

Could our "economic" system ever change to do what it's name is meant to do, economize?

I find it absurd that i still do not have a car that runs on other fuels besides diesel or gasoline. (i know the electric cars, but what i mean is how come there are no band wagons behind the electric cars or other types of fuels for cars? i dont recall the last time i saw an "electric car" commercial, tho i see a "24 mpg" one every other commercial break)

I find it absurd that i still can't buy a car that will last a life time. Unless i crash it.

Someone once said that "money is the root of all evil", i think it's greed.

Why are our things, laptops, tvs, tires, clothes, etc, made with the cheapest shit out there?

I mean i know why, but why do we keep on going in circles with those assholes.....

For once i would like to see god smite the human race, all of us, bam! just gone, leave a few. maybe 100 people. But that wont happen, sigh.

We seriously need a reboot and i doubt that humanity has it in it to change the way we are for the better good of the whole earth, because that would mean no profits.

    Generally false...

There's a tradeoff between durability and cost. We could build everything to last 100 years, but then we'd have cell phones the size of a brick from the 1980s with 70 more years of useful life. Nobody would want these. Consumer expectations about durability are factored into the price so you get various prices and durability levels.

I don't really know why there would be "no profits" in some fantasy land where all durable goods are made to last a lifetime. Profits in excess of the normal rate of return come from innovation, so as long as you have that anywhere you'll have profits.

I don't actually see what your argument is. Do you mean you want everything to be more expensive and thus more durable/exclusive? Why would you want that? The best thing about the economy is that it is liquid and thus the amounts of money shift from person to person. Also the more liquid it is, the more advanced we can get. Of course there has to be profit involved or else there is no incentive to work (if I work and I only get my dinners payed I would look for another job).

If you want something that will last a lifetime, Go for it! That means though that in 10 years it will be outdated at best, and in 30 years you probably can't even use it due changes in petrol compositions, but hey if you want bang for your buck go crazy on it!

The original statement is most quotable, and from a wide variety of perspectives.
Anyway, the economy is geared toward some exclusive partnerships, but these tend to involve more consumer goods and services than one can shake a stick at. That much nobody will deny. However, a lot of this is monopolistic, and would not happen as much in a free economy.
